Despite being in Japan for a number of years, I had never tried green tea ice cream which is available everywhere in Japan. Even though I have eaten some strange things in my time here from raw squid to raw horse meat to natto, I was hesitant to try green tea ice cream because I thought the taste would be strange.
Some months backs I was in Uji, a town south of Kyoto famous for its green tea, and I decided to try some.
At the place I went they sprinkled matcha on the green tea ice cream. Matcha is powder milled from the tea leaves. If you ever attend a tea ceremony or go to a tea house for some tea, the green tea is made directly from this.
