'Rise in attacks' on British Jews

Anti-Semitic attacks have centred on north London
The number of attacks on Jews in Britain has risen sharply since Israeli attacks began on Gaza last December, a charity has said.
The Community Security Trust, a charity working to protect Jews in the UK, says more than 250 anti-Semitic incidents were recorded in four weeks.
They include property vandalism, verbal threats and some physical attacks, most of which centred on north London.
The same period last year saw just 27 incidents, according to the trust.

Communities Minister Sadiq Khan said: "The Government strongly condemns the increase in anti-Semitic incidents. British Jews, like all communities, must be able to live their lives free from fear of verbal or physical attack.
"In recent weeks a steady, worrying and deplorable rise in the type and the number of incidents has demonstrated how events overseas can impact here and further underlines the importance of work to tackle anti-Semitism."

A. Current Gaza Massacre (27 December – 10 January 2009).

Israelis killed by Gaza rockets = 4 (current violence, Day 14).

Israelis killed by Palestinians = 6 (current violence, Day 14).

Palestinians killed by Israelis = 810 (current violence, Day 14).

Palestinian non-violent deaths due to food and medical deprivation (UNICEF data-derived pre-2009 rate 11.7 per day) = 164.

Palestinian violent and non-violent excess deaths (lower estimate) = 810 + 164 = 974.

Palestinian non-violent deaths from deprivation (non-violent deaths 1:1 with violent deaths in Occupied Iraq) = 810 (current violence, Day 14).

Palestinian violent and non-violent excess deaths (upper estimate) = 810 + 810 = 1,620 (upper estimate, Day 14).

DEATH RATIO of Palestinians violently killed by Israelis/ Israeli deaths from missiles = 810/4 = 203.

DEATH RATIO of Palestinians violently killed by Israelis/ Israeli deaths by Palestinians = 810/6 = 135.

DEATH RATIO of total Palestinian deaths from Israelis/Israeli deaths from missiles = 974/4 = 244 (lower estimate) to 1,620/4 = 405 (upper estimate).

DEATH RATIO of total Palestinian deaths from Israelis/Israeli deaths = 974/6 = 162 (lower estimate) to 1,620/6 = 270 (upper estimate).

B. Second Intifada (September 2000 – January 2009).

The horrendous mortality and morbidity statistics revealed by the paper "The Wounds of Gaza", just published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet are truly shocking – 1,350 killed (60% children) and 5,450 severely wounded (40% children) in reprisals for zero (0) Israeli deaths from Gaza rockets in the preceding year. This demands International Criminal Court and intra-national prosecutions and Sanctions and Boycotts against Apartheid Israel by all decent decent people around the world

Israel on the other hand, does behave in such a ridiculous manner. every death in Israel is mourned, not championed like it is with the Arabs. The school wasn't bombed, and it has come out that only THREE...THREE civilians were killed in the "school attack" (aka the pin point strike near a school) in addition to nine terrorists.

Don't insult our intelligence. ISRAEL locked ALL FOREIGN JOURNALISTS out when they were exterminating Palestinians just like the Nazis did with your race.

Well, the reality is first of all that if you create a Jewish state, even if, and I will come back to it in a second, even if a Jewish state is the only solution for anti-Semitism, definitely it cannot be a solution if that state is being built at the expense of a native population. I mean, the fact that in 1948 the Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homeland, dispossessed, did not allow Israel to become a safe place. Or the fact that the Zionists' forefathers decided to create a Jewish state in the midst of the Arab world was also not a good formula to insure security. So the timing and the location of the project of building a Jewish state by itself had the seeds of insecurity. So it could not really solve the problem of anti-Semitism, and as we know, it, in many ways, increased anti-Semitism after the Second World War.

But even more than that, I think that one of the major conclusions of Jews who were not Zionists, after the second world war, was that Jews should take a very active part in building a world where not only anti-Semitism, but basically racism and ideologies of that kind, would not have hold of the peopleâ??s minds and hearts. And I think this is why you saw, after second world war, many Jews trying to be active in movements such as the civil rights movement, in the socialist movement, and so on; exactly motivated by this belief that the right answer to anti-Semitism was not Zionism but rather an international moral movement.

Rules of War Weren’t Made for Only One People

But our reader has another point. “After all,” she says, “in the Second World War, after the entry of the US and USSR on our side, people could feel pretty positive about the outcome. But where is such hope for the Palestinians? And now to cap the horror the BBC is refusing to even show an appeal to help Gaza…” I’m not at all sure that W Churchill Esq would have entirely placed such confidence in the outcome of the Second World War – he was initially worried that the Americans would use up their firepower on the Japanese rather than against Hitler’s Germany.

I think, however, there is yet one more point. The rules of war – the Geneva Conventions and all the other post-Second World War laws – were meant to prevent another Holocaust. They were specifically designed to ensure that no one should ever again face the destruction of Mrs Greenman and her child. They were surely not made only for one race of people. And it is these rules which Israel so disgracefully flouted in Gaza. It’s a bit like the refrain from Lord Blair of Kut al-Amara and a whole host of other apparatchiks when the torture at Abu Ghraib was revealed. Well, yes, they told us, it was bad – but not as bad as Saddam Hussein’s regime.

And of course, this argument leads to perdition. True, we were bad – but not as bad as the Baath party. Or the Khmer Rouge. Or Hitler’s Germany and the SS. Or the Ottoman Turks – though I noticed movingly that one of Lyn’s Jewish Holocaust survivors mentions the Armenians. No, the numbers game works both ways. A thousand Palestinians die in Gaza. But what if the figure were 10,000? Or 100,000? No, no, of course that wouldn’t happen. But the rules of war are made for all to obey. Yes, I know that the Jews of Europe had no Hamas to provide the Nazis with an excuse for their deaths. But a Palestinian woman and her child are as worthy of life as a Jewish woman and her child on the back of a lorry in Auschwitz.

Under review by Colonel Shai Alkalai is the use of white phosphorus by a reserve paratroop brigade in northern Israel.

According to army sources the brigade fired up to 20 phosphorus shells in a heavily built-up area around the Gaza township of Beit Lahiya, one of the worst hit areas of Gaza.
