Weddings: what price for memories?

What’s your experience of the “wedding industrial complex”? Did you go all out or did you opt for a more affordable, but still memorable, day?

    • I'd liked to have heard what you did and how you went about it in the end.

I've been engaged for two years now and we keep putting it off as both I and my fiancee vomit every time we even dip our toes into the wedding industry. Ironically, the best weddings I've been to have been the cheapest.

Personally I don't want sit through a six course dinner designed not for my pleasure but to prop up the egos of the couple and their families. The recipe for a good wedding is lots of booze, friendly people and great music. If you've got people at your wedding who will judge you by the table decorations/invites/string quartet, you've invited the wrong people in my opinion.

    • KristinL, I proposed on Welsh 'Valentine's Day' - Dydd Santes Dwynwen - 25 January. Suw speaks Welsh, and we didn't have to pay the Valentine's Day tax.
