Just outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the Awakening in the Dream House provides ibogaine treatment, currently unavailable in the U.S., to clients with addictions. Ibogaine is derived from the root bark of Tabernanthe iboga, an African shrub that has an ancient tradition of ritualistic use by indigenous peoples. It causes drawn out, spiritual Hallucinations.

    • I am a current pain patient that suffers from degenerative disk disease, arthritis, and nerve damage. As a result of this I have to take some heavy narcotics to have any quality of life. I take 80mg of Oxycontin twice a day, and 30mg of roxicodone (which is like percocet without the tylonol, just the oxycodone), so of course i am addicted to these substances. When you are on these medications you have to sign something called a Narcotics contract. This says if you run out early, or loose your pills, your doctors will not refill them, and no other doctor can give you any medications either. So, being in those positions i can say from experience that the withdraw process is excruciating and miserable. It is also dangerous, and can cause stroke or heart attack causing death. However every emergency room refused to help me, and I even tried to check myself into detox. The doctors refused to even admit me to detox. If I had been using these substances illegaly, they would have helped me, but because i am prescribed these medications, they would not help me. If I would have had the option of Ibogaine, it would have absolutely made life tolerable while i didn't have my medication. If there is another way for people to get out of the cycle of addiction and avoid the vicious withdraw symptoms, without going cold turkey or swapping opiates for methadone or suboxone, which are equally addictive, and can be more dangerous than oxycontin, morphine, any of those medications; then I don't understand what the problem is. I believe the reason ibogaine is not being developed by " Big Pharma" is because they profit from our pain and suffering, and further by our dependency on these medications. Doctors are just as bad as the corner drug pusher, and i am just as addicted as the heroin junkie on the street. If there is a natural way to stop it, i say go for it. It is the same thing as medical Marijuana, we are lied to, restricted, and uninformed about natural treatments.
