Ads proclaiming, "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake," will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.

It doesn't matter if you believe in a god or not, Christmas will still remain the same, regardless, as long as you know what Christmas is truly about....

By the same merit, the 92% shouldn't dictate how we 8% (really closer to 17%) celebrate Christmas either, being that it is an amalgam of pagan holidays (Saturnalia, anyone?) to boot.

I think believing in God is more than "ignorant superstition." For many of us, it is the basis of our Faith, the source of all Love and Hope. Believing in God has more to do with spirituality and being closer to a higher being. It is not by good works but by grace that we are saved.
In the article the spokesman Fred Edwords stated "We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you," well I've heard that before and it was from the other side of the argument, to which non believers have replied that it's ok to believe on whatever you want as long as you don't push it on me. Well this group is pushing their idea on everyone.
Then Edwords said "we are trying to plant a seed of rational thought and critical thinking and questioning in people's minds." I find it curious that he says they're "planting a seed", a metaphor that Jesus Christ used when spreading the Gospel to both believers and non believers.
The article stated 92% of Americans believe in God. Certainly 8% is a minority and it should be respected but I don't agree 8% should dictate the other 92% how to celebrate Christmas.
In the end, the world is a "marketplace of ideas" so may the best idea win ;-)

I am very pleased with the new ad campaign. Blind acceptance of ignorant superstition should be questioned at every turn.
