I don't advocate the use or sale of crack cocaine. I do, however, endorse sentencing reform for drug addicts and those caught with very small amounts.

Releasing the non-violent drug offenders would throw many unionized government workers out of a job (baliffs, sheriffs, prison guards and workers, court workers, etc.).

I am taking Criminal Justice, and I do a lot of research.
And I do of course have fairly strong opinions, which I am not afraid to voice, on the death penalty and the "lock em' up and throw away the key" attitude of a good many of the people I go to school with.
But I am old in comparison to most, so have had more time in life to form opinions that mine, and not someone elses.Desertcat,
You are correct. It is food for thought. - 2 years ago

we are never going to be able to change the laws on drugs and who goes jail and who doesn't until we shake the chains of bigotry from this country. Keep track of the reporters on tv when they report any crime, if the perk is black or latino that is mentioned but if white never. You don't hear them say the person was Irish American or Italian American. Having that drilled into your head day in day out, you in time turn a deaf ear to injustice.

Here is the playlist of the film.
The film, "Crack the Disparity: It's Not Fair. It's Not Working.," was produced by the Crack the Disparity Coalition and directed by Howard University film professor Alonzo Crawford which highlights the history of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act legislation in Congress, and its affect on low-income and African-American communities.

About 15% of prisoners in the US are in prison for cannabis-related "offenses" - that is a bit over 1 million people in prison out of over 7 million prisoners.
"The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate,[3][4] and total documented prison population in the world.[3][5][6] As of year-end 2007, a record 7.2 million people were behind bars, on probation or on parole. Of the total, 2.3 million were incarcerated.[7] More than 1 in 100 American adults were incarcerated at the start of 2008. The People's Republic of China ranks second with 1.5 million, while having four times the population, thus having only about 18% of the US incarceration rate." Wikipedia
