Honey Badger for president?

By Jo Piazza / current.com / @jopiazza

Perhaps crazier things have happened in politics, but they're few and far between.

On Tuesday evening, while most delegates in Tampa were gathering in the Tampa Bay Times Forum to hear Ann Romney and Chris Christie deliver their remarks, another familiar voice was echoing through the streets of Ybor City — the Honey Badger's.

"Randall," the voice behind the viewed-50-million-times YouTube sensation "Crazy Nastya Honey Badger," (the most fearless animal in the animal kingdom) announced the creation of the Honey Badger political party at a rally yesterday evening.

Campaign staffers sold T-shirts for $25 and distributed signs and flyers with the Honey Badger's platform. Randall, who refers to himself as the Honey Badger's spokesman, signed books as well.

"It supports really good stuff," Jenny Brooks, a passionate young woman selling T-shirts, said about the platform. "Like clean energy."

"And what else?" I asked.

"Go to the website," she replied, before muttering under her breath, "Honey Badger don't care."

The group behind the farcical, yet somewhat compassionate campaign has taken up space in the Roosevelt Building on 15th Street in Ybor City and wallpapered the exterior of the structure with their logos.

Honey Badger's official bio on the campaign website reads:

About Honey Badger: He has lived in the wild since birth and has practiced everything from cobra fighting to bee larvae eating. Honey Badger graduated from the school of hard knocks and continues to learn through real-life lessons. Honey Badger is not a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green Party, Tea Party or any other label — he just don’t care.

The Honey Badger's policy positions do include clean energy and also sustainability.

His campaign slogan is: "Honey Badger Don't Care — He Eats Issues for Breakfast."

We have to admit, it's more creative than anything we've gotten out of the GOP this week.
