Thanks so much for posting. I think a big point to take away from this is that the 5th amendment right to protection against self incrimination is there to protect the innocent as much as the guilty, if not more. The detective's right when he said that merely being in front of a jury at the defense table is strike one- it definitely prejudices the jury, no matter what anyone says.

I'm not a big fan of the police, but it really seems like the reason not to talk to the police is because of lawyers.

It's good stuff. He talked so fast that if he were to speak slower he would have taken an hour. ha. I never thought it was a good idea to speak to the cops. Never when they come to your house to allow them in, either.

i was once pulled over for driving like an idiot, and the first thing the cop did was ask, "what do you call that back there?!?!?" and instead of admitting guilt, i said, "uhhh i dunno?"

i was not even ticketed.

This is why we shouldn't have capital punishment. Christ on a rubber crutch! The number of people they are able to get convicted is astounding. I especially liked the mentally retarded man they got to confess so as to "smoke out" the real killer.

That part about the well-intentioned, but mistaken "eye witness" who was able to put the guy at the scene of the crime....very eye opening stuff.

ACLU has a good video on YouTube on all the dirty tricks cops use to try to get you to incriminate yourself over seemingly innocous things when you get pulled over, or have alcohol at a party at your place.
