Great Link.
Thanks so much for posting. I think a big point to take away from this is that the 5th amendment right to protection against self incrimination is there to protect the innocent as much as the guilty, if not more. The detective's right when he said that merely being in front of a jury at the defense table is strike one- it definitely prejudices the jury, no matter what anyone says.
Again, great post.

Great to know... and for fellow Canadians, it's not the fifth here, but section 7 and 11(c) of the Charter.

I'm not a big fan of the police, but it really seems like the reason not to talk to the police is because of lawyers.

I'll share this with many people. This is good stuff. Thanks for sharing. I watched both videos by pausing and watching the other...every five minutes.
hahahha...what's left of equal time.
It's good stuff. He talked so fast that if he were to speak slower he would have taken an hour. ha. I never thought it was a good idea to speak to the cops. Never when they come to your house to allow them in, either.
But good to have something to share.

Yeah, I was as impressed by the guy's ability to speak that fast as I was by the information in the video.

Great presentation. One main point and tons of evidence and scenarios to back it up. Makes what he was saying much more credible. Can't wait to watch the other half of the presentation.

i was once pulled over for driving like an idiot, and the first thing the cop did was ask, "what do you call that back there?!?!?" and instead of admitting guilt, i said, "uhhh i dunno?"
i was not even ticketed.

This is why we shouldn't have capital punishment. Christ on a rubber crutch! The number of people they are able to get convicted is astounding. I especially liked the mentally retarded man they got to confess so as to "smoke out" the real killer.
This was very, very informative.
That part about the well-intentioned, but mistaken "eye witness" who was able to put the guy at the scene of the crime....very eye opening stuff.
I had no idea that pleading the 5th was so powerful.

I think that's a bit harsh. They're human, though, and a lot of the scenarios given in this speech involved simple mistakes. But, it's still important that people know how to protect themselves, and I think it's great that both of these guys were willing to put that information out there.

ACLU has a good video on YouTube on all the dirty tricks cops use to try to get you to incriminate yourself over seemingly innocous things when you get pulled over, or have alcohol at a party at your place.
