Bird friendly wind turbines

GreenScreenCinema
Hey Green Scene viewers! Here's a topic that's near and dear to my heart - wind power. The great thing about wind power is that the technology is not continually changing. If you have the room for a wind turbine you can pretty much run it till the arms fall off the thing. You won't be tossing out a highly toxic device when the next generation comes along, as is the case with solar power. And there's no messy radioactive byproduct!

Of course sharp blades turning at a high velocity are not that great for the local bird population. So that's why I was really happy to see that the wind industry is looking at wind turbine designs that are bird friendly. Watch this video to see a design inspired by 1,000 B.C.E. (Before Common Era) Egyptian technology.

    • The next generation of turbines will soon become the seed of the next generation. Hopefully, these new designs will appeal visually to those that find the traditional turbine a bit of an eyesore. Some roof top models have turbines knocked on their sides(unconventional) to capture winds that roll up and over the buildings that make up our cities.
