It's Left Hander's Day!

I don't know why we deserve a special day just because we write and wipe our bums with our left hand, but who the hell am I to judge. I'm just a lefty

    • I reckon we deserve a day because a lot of people don't get how everything is designed for right handed people - even a lot of left handed people don't think about it, because since birth we've just adapted because there's been no other choice.

      It's not just scissors, it's rulers, remote controls (look how your Sky remote is shaped), cameras, knives, corkscrews, musical instruments, can openers, potato peelers, and loads and loads of other things.

      I know it sounds all sounds a bit silly, but left-handed people have to learn to adapt far more than you'd ever think necessary, just because most things designed for the right-handed seem so natural, you don't even consider it. For example, have you ever thought about why all microwaves and most fridges and ovens open from right to left? It's so it's easier for right-handed people to put things in them.

      Sure most of it is pretty minor, and adapating isn't exactly the greatest struggle in life, but it is true that statistically left-handed people are more likely to be injured by household appliances than right-handed people,

      Apparently kettles are the biggest danger, as in most places they're placed to be picked up with the right hand, and accidents happen when left-handed people try to reposition them after the water's boiled or pick them up with their right hand.

    • maybe this will make up for all the struggle i endurned trying to cut construction paper with those dang safty sissors(can't spell) in kidergarden.
