FBI: Man gives teller ID before robbing bank

A 34-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he gave a teller his account number and showed her his picture ID before robbing an Anchorage bank.

The FBI says Jarell Paul Arnold of Anchorage is being held on federal bank robbery charges.

The FBI alleges Arnold walked into an Alaska USA Federal Credit Union branch Friday and inquired about the balance on his account. The teller asked for his name, account number and ID.

Authorities say he complied, and then handed over a receipt with a note on the back that said he had a gun and demanded money.

The FBI says he got away with about $600. Authorities arrested Arnold on Monday. A message left after business hours Wednesday with Arnold's public defender, Michael Dieni, was not immediately returned.

Court records say Arnold was sentenced to 57 months in prison for bank robbery in 2004.

    • wait, so did he just decide to rob the bank when he realized that he would overdraft? he should have just made the withdrawal and saved himself the embarassment. yeesh!

    • If you're gonna successfully rob a bank you've got to have a water tight plan, giving my full details prior to robbing the place would not make it past the brainstorming phase in my plan.

      Because the article did not have an image, I found an image elsewhere. I noticed that the money wasn't American, but I liked the pic. So, there you go. :) It IS a good observation.

    • If I wanted to rob a bank (not that I ever would!), I think my first plan would be to go to a bank Ive never been in before so I wouldn't be recognized! Duh!
      Anyway, like I said, Im not that stupid to rob any bank, ever.

    • I've heard of this happening to several robbers... It must be an instinctual thing to hand over your ID to the bank teller.

      Robbers everywhere - Keep your priorities in order! Leave the wallet at home where it'll be safe from your incompetence.

      LOL! I got the idea from the definition in that the Mafia was originally formed to fight tyranny. ;-)
