As for charging capabilities, the company states that 2 hours of direct solar exposure provides about 30 minutes of talk time on a 3G network or 60 minutes of talk time on a 2G network, and the skin's battery stores 120% capacity of iPhone 3G.

My Sony Erikkson w810i is still lightyears better than an iPhone. Because it had a camera AND VIDEO recorder on it two years ago when I bought it. iPhones are just now getting the video... tsk tsk tsk

I'm going to assume you take the case of and put it in the sun... Unless you want to blowup your apple...

And how long does it take for that little solar cell to offset the energy used in a) it's own creation and b) the creation of the iPhone itself?

alot of these greenie, yuppie, wanna-be types fail to look deeper into products in the damage that may have been caused in their production/disposal

superchill product
(and stop complaining that it's $70, you'll most likely reap the benifits in your electricity bill anyways)

I think those solar powered backpack 'charging stations' make more sense. You can plug in any cell phone, laptop, etc. Not sure the power they provide though?
My guess is, until you can get a full charge in under an hour it won't take off with consumers. - 2 years ago

I'm interested in seeing the implementation and future iterations of the device (increased charge rate and form factor) but surely won't be purchasing one right off the bat.
The appeal isn't just the the "green-factor" but ability to charge on the go or passively charge all day long and not be tethered to a charging base. Besides having a solar powered phone and a solar powered house aren't mutually exclusive (and different price ranges too might I add.)
Seems like treehugger also latched on because of the added side effect of sustainability.

thats retarded. how about we start roofing every house and buliding with solar panels and do something that will have a real impact on electric demand instead of fiddling with our gadgets and toys

110% this is so self serving. the return on investment(both the green on the trees and the green in your wallet) is horrible. zero impact. though if i did own one of the "i" devices, i'd probably feel better about myself too with one of these chargers.

Ironically, you aren't supposed to leave your iPhone in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time... this could get interesting.
Cool concept... don't know if I would build it into a case, though.

Does the case have a battery in it??
Can you leave the case in the sun by itself to charge it up???Cuz leaving your iPhone in the sun to charge is a really dumb idea.

I would absolutely use this , especially if I were camping. Although, my iPhone 3gs gets warm quickly and Apple Support said that warmth shortens the life of the battery charge , so would keeping my phone in the sun's lighting warmth be okay so as long as it's in a solar case ?
