    • I did not change a bit . Nor am I likely to . It seems to me some people didn't think things through well enough the first time . Seventh generation thinking would prevent this .

    • I think of the 60's radical leftist Harry Stein, compadre of David Horowitz. Stein was a rabid leftist, and underwent a conversion to conservative when he had a son. He decided he could not raise a child preaching what he espoused- thus his conversion........

    • My mom is a liberal and my dad is a conservative... but it's because of their moral beliefs and how they were brought up.. interesting though..

    • I'm a father of 3. I've always been liberal/progressive and I always will be. My father has been getting more and more liberal my entire life.

    • I have a few friends who have (male and female) followed this trend...becoming more conservative as they've had children.
People who were extremely 'wild and crazy' through their 20's suddenly develop an aversion to all those same things when they have kids and discover religion anew.
And worse - they want to make sure society as a whole follows their ideas for what's best.

    • sorry i haven't been around, all...

that said i have to say...

      BOLLOCKS!!!!

squirting out a unit does not change one's political affiliation, unless you have the brain of a banana slug. if i was to suddenly have a kid (ugh kids smell funny) i wouldn't suddenly start going to the mormon church. ( this is exaggeration and i'll eviscerate you verbally if you try and use it against me.) this has about as much basis in fact as rich women have better orgasms. bullshit. good to see that the top 1% is still trying to demoralize us plebians. hehe fools.

    • I agree with Hayden, I think it has to do more with regions being that my mom is more conservative but she also lives in the south, my father who is more liberal is from the north and has traveled. It's mostly what you are exposed to makes your politics slant in differant ways.

    • what if your neither???

Its an interesting study, but still seems more like conjecture on a whole based on tests with a few.....

Still it does provike thought, I know that I cannot live in a tent and travel wherever whenever I want anymore now that I am a father, but parenthood has not changed my political views.....

    • I don’t know about parenthood making them more liberal or conservative, but it certainly makes everyone more pessimistic.

This was Roe vs Roe time. to take a baby in the 8th month and abort it in 3 different sections, was more that i could bear and agree with, so then I tried Rep. and that was ok for me until NAFTA what the heck, take our jobs??? Now Im independant, Yes my State had an Ind. represenitive.

    • Is it that on a very understandable primal level men would become instantly more guarded and reactionary when they have the added responsibility of children to protect? Wouldn't women, based on their long evolutionary experience, at the same time, look around for that social (familial and tribal) network to help out?

    • I am a parent and a grandparent and I've always been radical since the late 60's so while it is true in some cases it is not true in all cases! my ex-wife was a radical as well!

My hubby and I raised one who has become a super liberal and we did not push anything on him but reading and getting a very good education.
A good education usually a liberal does make.

    • My dad was really really lilberal and he was a businessman, and my mom was more conservative than him but considering how things have moved to the far right, I would call her a blue dog type liberal now.

I agree Emperor, I'm in Okie land too, and even hardcore liberals, from my youth have become much more conservative. Maybe it's more to do with geography and social peers than anything else.

Also I'm a firm believer in Churchill's quote, " if you're not a liberal in your 20's you have no heart, and if you're not a conservative in you're 40"s you have no brain".

    • Women are generally more vocal and mothers tend to reach out for help and utilize special circumstances and that is in line with a liberal position. Men, on the other hand, tend to assume responsibility instead of seeking for outside help. When a man becomes father his common response is to work harder to reach family goals, frequently assuming the responsibility of sole provider responsible for the wellbeing of the family. This response is more in line with conservative views.
This is a very interesting study and I hope it will be utilized to strengthen family values and the balance gender differences with equal respect for both.

I think you are really wrong about regardless of race. Not one single Black or Hispanic woman I worked with supported GW Bush and he was a Republican.

But I think that some of them do become more conservative as they may buy into the "be very afraid" for their kids.
