Scientists crack 'entire genetic code' of cancer

Scientists have unlocked the entire genetic code of two of the most common cancers - skin and lung - a move they say could revolutionise cancer care.
Not only will the cancer maps pave the way for blood tests to spot tumours far earlier, they will also yield new drug targets, say the Wellcome Trust team.

Scientists around the globe are now working to catalogue all the genes that go wrong in many types of human cancer.

The UK is looking at breast cancer, Japan at liver and India at mouth.

China is studying stomach cancer, and the US is looking at cancers of the brain, ovary and pancreas.

The International Cancer Genome Consortium scientists from the 10 countries involved say it will take them at least five years and many hundreds of thousands of dollars to complete this mammoth task.

But once they have done this, patients will reap the benefits.

Professor Michael Stratton, who is the UK lead, said: "These catalogues are going to change the way we think about individual cancers.

"By identifying all the cancer genes we will be able to develop new drugs that target the specific mutated genes and work out which patients will benefit from these novel treatments.

"We can envisage a time when following the removal of a cancer cataloguing it will become routine."

It could even be possible to develop MoT-style blood tests for healthy adults that can check for tell-tale DNA patterns suggestive of cancer.

    • LOL. Morons. Hemp will GIVE you lung cancer if you smoke it too much. Duh. ANY smoke at all that you continually ingest into your lungs will harm them. Ordinary cigarettes are most harmful mainly because they're addictive,

    • I say great, but how about we let them spend many million of dollars instead oif thousands, and then have it done in 5 months! Make it a game show where the first person to cure cancer gets a record deal, or 100,000,000,000,000 dollars, and then it will be cured by the end of 2010

    • wow. "many hundreds of thousands of dollars", in an age where we spend trillions on warfare, this is a refreshing statement.

    • For all those who cheer the cure of cancer are neglecting 2 important facts. Our health care system does not function properly anymore,...so....like I have posted many times regarding prolonging the lives of many,..this means we will have added government and health care costs,..and age will soon become a sign or status symbol for the wealthy.
Cancer is simply,..the body dying off,..through time,..and environmental exposure. While some may savor the idea of having a loved one live one month or one year longer, they are denying themselves the basic knowledge of a "life cycle."

obviously a very factually-based, well informed opinion.. gimme a break

    • Most doctors can't even properly diagnose cancer symptoms, let alone early detection. So this is VERY big in the way of early detection.

now my question/concern is...Are health factor investors just going to jack the prices up on this new method to make up for the money lost on all the trial and error testing that patients are subjected to today?

    • cancer is a scary thing, mine messed me up from the radiation treatments. my sister had throat cancer and same deal, radiation messed her up. the current tools are crude; kemo is poison and radiation cooks a lot of other stuff. what burned me (pun) was the identification took months and treatment was delayed for months. any new treatment that comes from this is welcome.
population control is important but disease isn't going to be the medium of control, too much pain.

Gee I'm sorry to here that royulery! This new treatment will help other after you or if you have a relapse nother cancer, or your sister. If you and she were making up my tonic you could sit there and watch the damaged skin heal back. All the CLA and planet sterols in the V-8 juice, onion juice, all combines together into a healing you wouldn't believe, fast too.

I found a product last month called StemEnhance. It's about the same thing my tonic does except it's a capsule without all the foods and oils and powders. So if you get that that's fine too, the only thing is you have to eat the products anyway on your supper plate otherwise the stuff can't work. One way or the other, you still have to eat / drink extra food.

I wrote it online in another blog a while back => http://tinyurl.com/200yearsyoung

You guys don't hafta sit and wait another cancer diagnosis!

I'm finally dropping some pounds. I found these two great products => Anoretix and Leptorexin that really do work. They have different ingredients so they don't clash. I take em together. Citrimax has a wicking action that pulls lactic acid away from the muscles, helps ya get up off the couch, while Leptorexin contains Capsaicin and melts the fat. They're both a lot of natural stuff, real good for your health. Some of them helps raise mood, others raise sex drive, yo have to read their list of ingredients to know. Mucuna Pruriens raises HGH. It just goes on & on what all the stuff does.

    • we have a cure for cancer its called hemp...

i am starting to believe that the big pharma's are trying to use science into making us believe they are close to a cure in the hopes of creating new drugs and keeping us away from hemp... it just seems odd that now after many many talks of hemp they crack the genetic code...

    • I don't think you needed to react that way Thumper. You agree population control is important, yet offer no alternative to disease. People (myself included) find euthanasia immoral and birth caps sad, so why not let nature do it all for us? If we cure every disease out there, we will all die of starvation and over population. Doesn't mean I don't believe in medical innovation, this is just my response to your comment.

Population control hmm, All that does is allow the people who are hoarding space travel capable craft to keep them hoarded. There's a lot of room for expansion of the human race, out there, waiting. The game right now is the elite has em and we don't. You do population control all you do is continue the game the way they want it to continue.

3-4 years ago I caught a piece of information, a discovery from NASA that they know how to prevent cosmic radiation from penetrating the spacecraft hull. Never heard of have ya? hahaha That's right. It made the News then it made the vault.

Whenever you play the other man's game you will lose. Your humanity smashed. Your children dead. Their children happy and well-fed. Their children off joy riding through Space, your children tied to a desk with a rope paying them the tax monies they demand from slaves to fund the projects you will never have nor your children, unless they bow really low.

I was sold on population control once too but it was just brainwashing genocide psychology to change the numbers to less beautiful White Scandinavian women. It's a war on Whites by getting Anglo Saxons to voluntarily exercise restrictions on their own while everybody else kept on having more babies. When American women aborted their children more immigrants had room to flood across the borders.

275,000,000 has become 305,000,000 after millions of abortions wake up fools. American women's aborted fetuses were quickly replaced by other Races, so you tell me where abortion is correcting over population I'm all ears to hear it.

Now get out there and have every baby you can make and you'll see the heavens open up for everybody instead of a select few and the Green Beret. Force them to open up space like I know they damn well can do. A few months ago a News release also quickly hushed, they've made engines that can get a craft over to Mars in a few weeks time.

And that prisoner ration garbage they sell ya called food I'll tell you what it is. They take the food and extract the important stuff out of it to feed the troops keeping their glorious military machine tooling along while back home we struggle to pay for food unfit for rats. Rats and birds turn their noses up to our food and go into dumpsters for real food. It's classic, a way to keep prisoners from growing much muscle and their bones too weak to escape.

All we are to them is Roman galley slaves chained to a desk and a timeclock. no matter how hard you row their boat for them you never get ahead and you know it. They've made a swimming pool flushed with a stream of water. Row harder or become a beachcomber same difference. Buy a house then die, another Realtor jacks up the price to the next sap and makes the gravy not you. The game is rigged. Stocks are manipulated by the few to keep players to string people along with a sprinkling of hope every so often. You'll sell your own brother into slavery to get ahead.

This system breaks your legs so you can't run. So you start hallucinating that when the astronauts do something you have also done something but you haven't they did. You could have a flying car right now capable of reaching Earth's Moon in 5 hours, not "Sir" Richard Branscom's cattle car ship.

Your car, your ship, your steering wheel, your adventure, your life, not
lived through someone else a proxy life lived for you, stupid taxpayers.
You aren't just being short sheeted you're shivering to damn death

    • I really wish they would cure something. Maybe start with something small like the common-cold, or athletes foot. We have lots of medicine to make us look and feel better but no cures. I wonder how many cures were lost by drug companies. If they cure us we don't need their medicine. That's bad business. This development seems to satisfy people enough to justify the billions they spend curing nothing.

    • darinK:

Well darinK, there is a cure. The cure is contained inside your body in its very own tailor-made, non rejection Immune System. If you pump up the jam with the correct nutrients + oxygen you will mash the Immune System accelerator to the floor and it will kill cancers either that or sometimes contain them to grow so slow they never affect ya. Your own cell DNA knows what it needs.

Most malignancies come from cell corruption of the mitochondria, which is severely short-circuited by all the poisons we're getting from our food & drink. But now a benign cancer is a good sign because that's what cells are supposed to do, excrete the garbage and the bloodstream carts it off to a common location and packs it in one spot. My ex had a benign brain cancer. I was ecstatic because it told me her system is functioning properly. Instead of turning malignant it did what it was supposed to do.

It was of course dangerous due to the location but, since the brain and breasts are soft tissue having the most blood supply that's also normal to be deposited in those locations.

Pre-emptive is always the best strategy IMHO. Be ready before trouble starts, and if trouble does come your body can rebuild new cells faster than the crap cells are dying off. hahaha You can build a lot better cells that way anyway/ Here's a link for you, a post I made not long ago on another web site => http://tinyurl.com/200yearsyoung and also my tonic formula => http://tinyurl.com/doctorbillsvaccine (also linked in the first one anyway).

You are the cure you seek.

This other stuff is nice, but it's also for sissies.

I can imagine that Progresshiv! Laying on the beach soaking up the sun, taking another drag off the cigarette hanging from their mouth like smokers always do. And a martini in a pear tree. Paradise, where people pay other people to help them keep their drug addictions. I've observed that all my life in family members and strangers alike. How nice of the scientists to use non-smoking taxpayer monies to be enablers.

Should've come from their pocket, their taxes.

Happy? Hmm. I could go for some of that. It'll never percolate down to me here though so hmm. You must actually have a real doctor! Hmm, but I am happy. I fought MRSA, Lyme's, cancer, and killed a big ass tapeworm bare-knuckled as it tried to chew through the inside of my colon. Did it all with nutrition products off the online health store shelf.

Hmm. Too bad for you. You have to beg and wait for someone to decide whether you're worth fixing. You live life with doctors joined at the hip, dependent on their time and mercy. I found them to have neither. I'm free you're not.

Unfortunately it will be you who gets the cancer. I've fought off 3 myself. Probably more. For you to wish me to have cancer tells me a lot about the condition you're in. I would give you my wealth of knowledge how to stop it and defeat it but I've decided today to stop giving advice. Your impending death isn't my responsibility.

Fun fact! Cancer is a group of cells that are made with a genetic defect in them. Usually the body picks these up and destroys them while they're still one or a few cells. But, when they grow out of control, we get the tumor, a group of deformed cells. It's all in how your shit forms.

Eat right, exercise and get plenty of sleep. Boom, there's your wealth of knowledge and how to defeat it. same way of keeping your bod healthy anyways.

People are going to get better man, can't you be happy for that at least? Or must everyone here on Current hold themselves to the highest regard?

LowShred, your so-called "facts" have a number of errors. But since my knowledge is held in contempt here I'm going to let you continue holding yourself (in high regard thinking they are the facts). You seemed to get so much joy telling me off too.
