    • Wow i just can't believe this, it is so worrying. When it comes to addicts paying huge amounts of money, you'd think that this would be starting to have a major effect on crime rates. Good that Ireland has a tight hold on this kind of thing already. I'd be interested to know about whether this is an issue in England as well, i imagine it must be but we just don't know about it.

in ireland opiates like oxycontin, durogesic, actiq, lyrica, zydol, all meds that im on are only beginning to come on to the black market, people who are saying their pain is a lot worse than it is in order to get these opiates, are then selling them on and then buying ordinary painkillers over the counter, its sad, but i dont blame the addict, thats a chronic sickness, i blame the creeps that are selling the tabs in the first place. where you from hlrob? whats it like where you are?

    • jcmanu, thanks for your response, it is really interesting to hear from your perspective and your experience. I'm pleased to hear that your wife is being so cautious and it sounds like you are very strong willed. This film is so disturbing and i can see why you would be frustrated by people harassing you when they don't need to take the drugs! People who are addicted just don't seem to care about where they get the drug or who they affect in the process, I find it really shocking. Do you feel that this is becoming an issue in Ireland or are people contacting you from abroad?

a bit of both hlrob, doctor shopping as its called stateside is virtually impossible here in the rep of ireland,
mainly due to the strict guidelines set down by our government. you can have as many as 4 doctors over here, but when you get a prescription, it automatically goes on computer,so when you get your meds in the chemist, the doctor and your local health board is informed immeadiatly, thereby cancelling the used script.
if you then go to another doctor, trying to get another script, it shows up on his computer that you only just got one, good for the honest person, bad for the addict.i have heard of stories where doctors who have been discredited in their own countries have come to ireland to try there case, but are normally caught farily fast. i went on a forum a while back and filled in my profile, within 3 hours , i had well over 10 requests from various people around the world offering me enormous amounts of money( no questions asked) to send them over my meds.
in ireland once your seriously ill , you can qualify for a medical card, once you have that ,all your meds are free. i do know of people , who are sick, but still sell on their meds to junkies willing to pay whatever they can to get them,

    • im from the rep of ireland, im 43 with 5 kids, i have terminal cancer and am on a serious amount of opiates
for the pain, thankfully, mainly due to my wife ,im not addicted, however im constantly getting harrased by junkies wanting to buy my oxycontin, im on 2 by 160mg daily. they also want my 5 by 600 mg actiq and my durogesic patches and 600mg lyrica, im on these amounts daily, why cant these people understand that i have terminal cancer and need these drugs for the pain.
my wife controls every thing i take and no doubt i would be addicted only for her.
god bless her help, and keeping me from the clutches of addiction.

    • Prescription drug abuse in the U.S always seemed more rife than in the UK but by the looks of this it really is an epidemic, and oxycontin is powerful and addictive stuff by all accounts! Vanguard always does an amazing job reporting on issues like this so looking forward to it!
