The NHS seems to add yet more positive happy points to our lifestyle, despite our endless moaning and wingeing about it.
In a battle of words that developed between bloggers over the issue of "who's country is better" one blogger put the debate to rest nicely when he said,
"I lived in the U.K. for 30 years and hated it. I've lived in the U.S. for the last seven and hate that too."
What are your guys thoughts on the Oxford Economics consultancy's findings?

Hi, i met my husband on vacation he is british and now has a green card here in america.
While i have grown to hate america mostly because of bush's politics (iam american) my husband loves it here,i asked him why and he gave me these reasons
1. americans are more laid back and friendly
2. everything is cheaper here houseing, gas, food, clothes etc.......
3.we are less crowded he said he never thought he would live in a single dwelling home and have his own garden (yard)
he told me in britan that they sterotype americans as being obese, stupid, loud mouthed, big headed.
he also stated a huge portion of brits do not like americans.
yet he says he likes 90 percent of americans and held the same veiw until he came here.
I asked him if anything in uk was better than america and he stated
1. national health care
2. 6 weeks vacation he use to get
3. less crime
Alot of english people do not understand that all of england will fit in our state of texas of course we have more crime.
Also alot of english people have watched shows like cops and surmise that all americans are classless and keep there homes in total disarray like alot of the chracters on this show do.
As for big headed lol i think dallas was quite a popular show in the uk at one time.
I do love the american people and i hate what bush and his politics have portrayed our people as being. - 4 years ago

Haggis,
Interesting insight into the UK. Maybe you and I can trade citizenship? lol! Housing is very expensive too in the cities of the US. Not so much in the suburbs, but if you want to be where the jobs, culture and nightlife are, be prepared to pay big bucks for housing! If you can afford it. I live in San Francisco and 80% of the people rent here. We can't afford to buy. Not even with 2 median income earners per household.
But I love SF. It reminds me a little bit of London and Amsterdam. There is no culture like SF culture. But it would be great if I was actually living in London.

Lets get somethings straight here, The british system is not better than that in the US, you have much more freedom to earn and to choose your educational route, we don't. OK our medical treatment is free but it has so many flaws and is a post code lottery as to were the best treatment is available. The cost of living in the UK is so expensive compared to the US, and you try and buy a house here the prices are so expensive compared to the US. So think carefully before you move to the UK,We'd love to move to the US but can't,because UK citezens don't qqualify for the green card lottery ?

To me London and NYC are the same with people driving on the oposite sides of the road. If there is a gap it cannot be very large and probably fluctuates often. What is the point of this article anyway? We need to focus on ourselves not everyone else.

that 9 months of maternity leave in brit. is actually due to common sense and not the higher ups in your field being greedy by snatching the majority of your sick leave while youre preggers like we have in US. An ex- teacher of mine lost $16k while she was on maternity leave. why? shitty education in america. no child left behind my ass. by the way, who actually read the entire document?
our dollars are worth shit because look at what sitting in the oval office like a the idiot he is? BUSH.
personally, i want to live abroad. im not downing US but i think that im going to decide on where i want to live based on experience, like everyone else should do.

You Brits definitely have it better than we do. Universal health care, a k-12 education system that's actually worth a damn, 4-6 weeks of vacation days, 9 months of paid maternity leave, and the best museums of the planet. Oh, and you don't have Shit-for-brains as your President. I'd move to the UK if I could.

A chicken farm in Australia? Did you manage to catch Jamies TV show about chickens the other night? Surely that would put you off for life!
Middlesbrough. Ouch.

I live in Seattle and love it! I would probably also love the UK. Sure there are problems, but life would be pretty boring without them.
