Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang stepping down

Apocalipstick
Jerry Yang, the Yahoo founder who recently returned as chief executive to restore the company to its onetime luster, said today he is stepping down.

Yang, 40, told employees in a memo that he will continue as CEO until a replacement is found, then will return to his old job as "Chief Yahoo."

He returned as CEO June of last year and presided over one of the most tumultuous periods in the Internet portal's history.

This year, Yahoo spurned an offer from Microsoft for $33 a share; its stock closed Monday at $10.63. It announced a 10 percent layoff, of 1,500 employees, in October, following the third consecutive quarter of declining sales.

    • Good riddance. Yahoo's critical support for repressive policies in communist China has led to the detention (and torture?) of pro freedom advocates. Goodbye Jerry Yang. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
