BerkShares are a local currency for the Berkshire region of Massachusetts
Dubbed a "great economic experiment" by the New York Times, BerkShares are enabling an alternative economic future for their communities. Launched in the fall of 2006, with over one million BerkShares having been circulated in the first nine months and over two million to date.

This is awesome, they have the best of both worlds!
They invest in the local market, encourage growth and stop massive corporations from killing small businesses!More communities could learn from this, I think it's a great Idea!
