The Week in Photos: Sept. 10 to Sept. 16

New York City and the nation are preparing to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on lower Manhattan which resulted in the deaths of 2,753 people.

 

Elsewhere...

America honored the lives of those lost during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the passengers of Flight 93. Former President George W. Bush joined President Barack Obama in New York City, as the victims' names were read by family and friends.

In California, nurses marched in support of seniors while foreclosure statistics were released that showed a spike in mortgage default notices filed by banks.

Economic woes continued in Greece, where proposed austerity measures have lead to violence in the streets and long lines of people looking to withdraw their savings from the nation's troubled banks.

Tragedy struck the nation of Wales, when minors were trapped in a collapsed mine that later flooded, in India where two trains collided and in neighboring Pakistan, where intense flooding has taken over 200 lives and displaced an estimated 300,000 homeless.

In other news, two Russian cosmonauts returned home safely following a 5-month stay on The International Space Station and the celebrations began for the Mid-autumn Festival in the Jiangxi Province of China.
