Al Gore says Romney 'made a serious mistake' attacking Gingrich and Perry in N.H. speech
During Current TV's "Politically Direct 2012" New Hampshire primary coverage, Al Gore and Jennifer Granholm explain why Mitt Romney's prime time speech failed to resonate for them. Gore believes Romney "missed an opportunity" to rise above the attack ads against him released this week, instead targeting opponents Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry. "He just beat the tar out of them in this primary," Gore says. "Why not let that be his response?" Granholm says, "The hypocrisy of his actions -- what he has done -- and what he's saying now is so blatant."

JerryWrite, I think you miss the point. Olbermann does bring a level of "slick" that the Turks don't provide. However, the Turks are very different from anything else out there. The fact that it's "raw and ruff" will attract a very different audience than those who watch MSNBC and other cable news outlets. That's a good thing. With a decade of doing what they do on-line behind them, they have a format that works for their audience (which is distinctive). There are many times when the Turks cover stories from perspectives that no one else does. That, by itself makes the program worthwhile. Sometimes the style and presentation misses the mark, but the content is usually excellent -- even if there are times when I disagree with the premise or the conclusion. Get as far outside that box as possible and it's a good thing.
I'm interested to see what Granholm does with her show. It may or may not be innovative, but I'm pretty sure it will be interesting.
That said, I agree that Olbermann should be included in the election night lineup. The former VP is brilliant, but not a great presenter. Bring him in for analysis, but he's not (nor does he apparently believe he is) a host. I think that Current has an opportunity to create their own brand -- not just liberal/progressive but a different style of presentation. That may, ultimately, attract a different audience that currently (no pun intended) does not seem themselves reflected in the other networks. I love the black background on Countdown and the fact that KO has been dressing casual. Let the other three networks look alike. Current is going to be different.

There are only two reasons for watching CurrentTV - the Vanguard documentaries and Keith Olbermann (and I'm not even a fan of Mr. Olbermann).. At some point this not-ready-for-prime time network will have to admit that Mr. Olbermann is irreplaceable. Perhaps the person who said everyone is replaceable should in fact be replaced. The Young Turks are not going to do it for you. Governor Granholm is not going to do it for you. And while I admire Al Gore a great deal, watching him is kind of like watching paint dry. The only real professional on the network is Keith. Like him or not, he is charismatic. And fun. If you want this network to continue (and I certainly do) then bite the bullet and give the ego from hell whatever the hell he wants whenever he wants it. Don't let a good thing die because of clashing egos.
