Santorum blames media for reporting on Foster Friess' 'joke'

Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum is lashing out at the media after facing a swarm of criticism over a contraception "joke" made by one of his top supporters.

"This is the same gotcha politics you get from the media and I'm just not going to play that game," Santorum said in an interview on "CBS This Morning". "This is someone who’s a supporter of mine and I'm not responsible for every comment a supporter of mine makes."

Foster Friess, one of the biggest donors to the pro-Santorum SuperPAC the Red, White and Blue Fund, "joked" on MSNBC’s "Andrea Mitchell Reports" that back in his day women used Bayer aspirin as contraception.

"The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly” Friess said.

This isn't the only sound bite from Friess this week that the Santorum campaign wishes would disappear.

Monday night on "The Young Turks" Friess told host Cenk Uygur that Santorum wants to "honor rich people."

Before this recent media blitz, Friess was just a mysterious, rich, white-haired guy standing behind Santorum at victory speeches. It shouldn't surprise anyone if the Santorum campaign soon advises Friess to slip back into the background.
