Giuliani: We need a President who can say 'bomb' Iran

By David Taintor / Talking Points Memo

The war drums are beating louder and louder for Iran. And on CNN Thursday night, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani did his part, casually saying President Obama should threaten to "bomb" Iran to prevent the country from developing a nuclear weapon.

Obama has made the situation more complicated by being such a "weakling," Giuliani said, including writing a secret letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamanei asking for a dialogue.

The president instead should be convincing Iran that he's serious and capable of launching military strikes, which is the United States' best chance to avoid actually carrying out a military mission, Giuliani said.

"(Obama) can't say the words 'bomb them,'" Giuliani said. "We need a president who can say the words 'bomb them' and actually can do it if he has to protect us from Iran becoming a nuclear power."

Once the president convinces Iran that he will "bomb the hell out of them," Giuliani said, things will change. "We are the largest military in the entire world, they are a small, tiny little military power compared to us."

    • Dumb-shits....all of them. But it is these dumb-shits that will get us into a war no one will win...kind of like the ones we're in now, only it will be worse.
Idiocracy never looked so true as it does now.

    • More Republitard, right wing hypocrisy. Why is it that insurance programs, such as social security and Medicare are supposedly bankrupting our nation, but huge military campaigns are perfectly acceptable. It is time to bring our soldiers home. We do not need hundreds of thousands of troops overseas chasing a boogeyman. We have proven small contingents of highly trained special forces units are far more effective than brigades of infantry. Giuliani is one more Republican war hawk who can't put his money where his mouth is. Listen to the campaign rhetoric emanating from the Republican primaries. At the end of the day President Obama got Osama Bin Laden, killed many leading figure heads of Al-Qaeda, got us out of Iraq, and so on. My voting decision will be very easy come November. Sorry Rick, Mitt, Newt, and Ron your ideas suck and I don't want to have any part of the regressive politics you espouse. Progress is being made and you are being left behind. Enjoy your guns and bibles. By the way, to understand the Bible, wouldn't you need to be able to read. Lowest common denominator politics is truly sad!!!

    • Great idea. We need to bomb the ever living hell out of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. For the record, that was sarcasm. This is ridiculous. The only thing we are going to do is pick fights with people we don't need to be in battles with.
