"People who attempt to resist the forthcoming Big Brother ID card and database system in the UK will never be able to leave the country according to the Government official in charge of the scheme."

"As of 2009 anyone who applies for a passport in Britain will also be issued with an ID card, for which they must also provide fingerprints, biometric details such as a facial scan and a wealth of personal details - including second homes, driving licence and insurance numbers."

When asked what would happen to ID card refusniks, Mr Hall stated: "There is no need to register and have fingerprints taken - but you will forgo the ability to have a passport".

    • This is evil, plain and simple. Your will to move about freely is a thing of the past. Soon you won't be able to set foot outside the door without stating your destination. Control over others is simply TYRANNY.

    • "You fear too much just because you are doing so much wrong."

Now if that isn't the trumpet call of the Orwellian oppressive state nothing is. What was it that Benjamin Franklin once said "Those who would sacrifice freedom for temporary security deserve neither."

Well when Reel ID is ushered into the US it will be to "protect us from terrorist and illegal immigrants."

The second you give the state an inch they take WAY more then a mile.

    • really? I've never heard of this!

I don't think it's necessary for them to have our fingerprints!

I think that maybe it's kind of convenient for us to have ONE card that has all of our information on it to avoid carrying around your health card, driver's licence, social insurance, but that's it.

    • and if you read the rest of the article it says -

"Now it has been confirmed that although you can obtain a passport without an ID card, you must still provide the biometric data which will still be placed on the national database. In one final insult you must also pay the same elevated price as you would to obtain a combined passport/ID card."

      Either way England is screwed.

    • It's already coming. They call it Reel ID. And the sad thing about it is that it will be issued during a democratic presidency even though it was the Bush Administration that set up the program. Obama's gonna have stains on his legacy just from the mess that Dubya left.
