Seeing Double? How to avoid clipping duplicate stories

They say great minds think alike and it seems Current is often overflowing with them! When a story breaks on Current it is almost a race to clip the story. When multiple outlets report the same story how are Current staff helping to manage the incoming clips?

The Current team love to get a discussion going and sometimes this is difficult with lots of versions of the same story. To help gather people around the same discussion we do our best to direct any interested users to the same thread. How, we hear you cry? Well, with a combination of tags and a handy link. If you want to add your link to the same thread you can, that way anyone interested in the story has access to all the various ways it is being reported.

But what if I think my story is different?
We’d all like to hope that we don’t make mistakes but we’re also human, so it can happen. If you think it has drop us a mail: yourfriends@current.com

How can I make sure my story is unique?
The handy search tool on the top right of the page should sort that out for you. Type in a couple of key words related to the story and search. Want to find the latest version? Click the "latest" tabs and then, as if by magic, the latest story on that subject appears! Isn’t the internet crazy?

Got a question you need answering? Fire away, we're here to help!

    • i seem to have this problem quite a bit. but if its a new story i check under news and politics or earth and science to see if anyone's posted it already. however, sometimes i'll post something that won't get any attention but then someone will post the same story 2 days later and make the front page. whatever though, thanks for the tips. those twins are already wearing ties and vests? classy haha

    • A search doesn't always bring up what you're looking for. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, you post something that is a duplicate. That's why there is a delete function.

Happened to me just this morning.

    • This is a good thing to do to avoid replicating articles as much as possible. Just use the search tool and see if yours or a similar article has already been posted. I am going to be extra careful about that in the future.

    • Thanks Larock - they are supercute twins. But like you I hope their parents didn't make them wear those outfits all the time ;-)

    • Thanks KefKef & cantucwearebrothers - glad you liked the post.

In the office we were debating whether the twins bore a striking resemblance to Beta_Boy but he assures us he was never a twin ;-)

    • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

I always feel so bitchy about this topic. Really...how difficult is it to search a few key words before you post.

I love it even more when I post something and then somebody who has connected to me posts the exact same thing and invites me to comment! HA!!!

Rarely do I invite connections to chime it...this time it's goin out to everyone.

      That pic...priceless!!! =D

    • Thnks! I hate it when an article that I post weeks ago gets the same or more attention because someone else submitted it (that maybe because early on I didn't have great connections.) Or even worse, when the article was posted just yesterday and made it to the homepage. Then the same article comes up again by a different user. I hate old news.
