Today's Question for The Book

Anne_Foy
Dear Anne

I've been wondering recently (since the New York plane crash where the pilot landed in the river) why airplanes do not have some sort of grill or guard over the engines which would stop birds from being sucked into them? I realise that they produce a lot of suction and the aerodynamics are also vital, but there must be something that can be done?

Keep on trucking Foy Boy!
