you know what they call measuring freedom in terms of how much land you've got? lebensraum.
i'm pretty sure it's german. i don't know... look it up or something.

lebensraum is a german word. It translates to "living space" and was used by the Nazi's in an attempt to justify their illegal invasion of Czechoslovakia.
to use that word in your argument is pretty damning.

but false facts are fertiliser for the feeble minded, subduing serious thought & sowing the seeds of stupidity.. (say that 3x fast)can you "flag" a story for being Bullsh@t? are outright lies as "inaproppriate" as vulgarity? ? ?

Actually the left wing nut jobs lie to push their agenda. Evidence of that in the recent healthcare bill.
Actually the election results of 2008 resulted in the death of a thousand cuts for this country, freedom and the Constitution. It was not a sudden suicide but it is a suicide non the less. - 2 years ago

of course the death of a thousand duhs already happened under BUSH who just happened to take a surplus, plunge us into debt with it, start 2 needless wars and own the biggest failure of our national security EVER, none of that has anything to do with the situation we're in now, right? right? oh yeah, and the bailouts... those happened on bush's watch too.

Gee, the right-wing nutjobs lie to push their agenda.

They have a whole TV channel with nothing but lies- well, "fair and balanced" lies, of course.... even though I'm in a red state, I'm glad to see my counties are blue!

Nope.
Not even MSNBC is as extreme in it's bias as FOX.There is a diference between a news channel having a subtle slant to the left, vs jumping overboard with out-right lies and fabrication to further right-wing propaganda.
It's not even close.

Yeah but what real choice? Sure there were a few differences between the 2 candidates, but nobody else was seen as a serious contender. And in a lot of ways Obama has been more of the same, case in point; http://current.com/news/92438099_obama-and-civil-liberties.htm So people took a kick in the shins over a punch to the face, not really surprising or impressive. The major media outlets refused to acknowledge anyone else.

This happens in every election though. And not just for Presidents either. In NJ the choice between Corzine and Christie was like choosing between crap and poop. But what makes this election different is the fact that Obama got considerably more electoral votes and more states won than his competitor...

Thanks for the post. Current 'fact check' sounds like a good idea. The truth should start somewhere. Why not current?
'Just say anything' isn't current. Or, should I say, it shouldn't be. Don't sensor the post. Add the facts. This post is an excellent example of why 'just say anything' shouldn't be part of current.
Maybe it's up to us, to counter their spin with facts? Good job.

All I found was a group called http://current.com/groups/facts/ but none of the stories looked relevant to that.
You're probably right that the it is up to to members themselves to edit, fact check and proofread the stories since all the available evidence supports that.
It doesn't look like the name factcheck has been taken for a group name. But getting people to use that group and put the effort into following through on that idea is quite another kettle of fish

Maybe adding the tag 'fact check fail' would work to separate fact from fiction. I think an accumulation of 'fact check fail' posts, would move the poster to where they belong, spinning in the corner. Not at the top of current.

It doesn't seem to be how the system is set up, since the tags don't have that affect on the voting, the tags only affect how it is searched for not the position on the list
As mario_a comfirmed on the other post, if you add a comment to advise people of a "fact check fail" that only serves to vote the story up

Either Current is the torrent of News that isn't responsible for what content is distributed or it is more like News On Demand where the people that posted the story to fact check it.
Just like the Print On Demand services require you to proofread and edit it yourself then they just manufacture it and ship it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqtq5NBMrG8
Either way they don't seem to get into editorial standards like traditional publishers since there doesn't appear to be a "Lou Grant" there to uphold the principles of journalism.
