Of course we should protect those places, but there are a lot of freedoms being compromised these days in the name of safety and its important to document what's happening. Limiting access to buildings in DC makes sense. Using the same "keep us safe" logic, though, you could say that forcing telecommunications companies to hand over phone records also makes sense. It's a slippery slope.

A central aspect of terrorism is making political statements that have as much a symbolic message as one of pure destruction. Of course the government should protect those assets -- like the White House, the Capital building, the FBI building, etc -- that have the greatest symbolic significance to the United States. And seriously... is our life as citizens severely diminished because we can't have an inside look at the architecture of these buildings? This is a freedom that I'm willing to compromise on! What about you?
