Humanlight

You may never have heard of Humanlight, but for a growing number of non-religious Humanists it offers a way to celebrate a different kind of faith - faith in the human spirit.

    • Your wrong. I'm a Christian & I'm not thretend by other religions because I know there wrong. If you want to not worshit any lord(or worship your self) thats your poragative, but if you are saying that Christmas is wrong and that the people who celebrate are fanatics for trying to keep it sacred then your just as bad for telling us that we sould back off and let you be. The beauty of America is I can say your wrong and for you to say I'm wrong but demonizing Christians is unessiary and rude.

    • I totally agree with Donahue's opinions.
Because of the amount of PC in this country, the majority has been pushed down, and I don't apprecciate people sneering at me just because I am one of the majority.
Don't get me wrong. I have an extremely diverse group of friends, and we can all celebrate our holidays together. Yet when Humanists, and other groups, create a holiday for the purpose of making a statement, rather than truly celebrating what they believe in, I think thats wrong.
This idea has entered the country that it's COOL to have rebellious ideas, simply because it goes against the status quo. We Christians celebrate Christmas because it is one of our holiest holidays, besides Easter. Companies will certainly commercialize it, but that doesn't make it any less holy in my mind.
The idea that a holiday must be created to force someone's ideas into the majority is wrong. As the reporter said, we have the right to not accept religion. I don't mind that he celebrates Humanlight, yet when he assumes that Christmas is bad and that the Conservative Right is plotting to quell his ideas, we venture into personal issues.

    • Interesting, I had no idea this was out there. I like the idea of more groups having celebrations in December. It would help dilute the overwhelming, super-commercial Christmas mania I have to wade through every year. And also, you know, everyone deserves a party.

    • The DJ in the green sweater, interviewed in this report, is at least a bit irritated with intolerant Christians and speaks out. Though, frankly, Xmas is the least of our problems in the USA, especially with religious people. I am deeply tired of being "fair minded"/tolerant about others' superstitions AND with being argumentatively cornered by relgious people who are distressed and angry and INtolerant of my atheism, as if I'm a child molester. I was actually asked by the manager of a cafe to stop talking at my table to my friend in normal conversation about atheism because another customer complained about the effect of our conversation on her 10 year old child! In Los Angeles. So, since Xmas isn't even a Christian holiday, but rather an earlier winter ritual stolen by the, frankly, Imperialist Christians, let's forget this debate and continue the far larger debates about "liberal" "tolerance" and the superstitions of the "religious".
