    • Canadian native Jaron Gilinsky travels to Cuba to check out what life is like in one of the last remaining communist regime that is a mere 90 miles from the US. It's perhaps one of the best and most balanced mini-documentaries in ten minutes or less explaining everyday life in Cuba (for documentary see Fidel's World at http:www.current.com/groups/on-current-tv/76332642_fidels-world.htm).

    • This is just American anti-Cuban propaganda.
Even if the baseball players got paid $13 dollars a month (which is a lie) they have a very good system for buying necessities, with cuban $s.
And yes theres absolutely ''NO'' propaganda in the US is there? and when i was there we got in loads taxis, the one you were in was probably an un-licensed taxi
"oh boo hoo the big bad evil goverment stops me from stealing".
yes there are down sides to communism, but its not as if there arent down sides to capitalism.and if you went to places in the U.S. there would be houses in worse condition. One more thing cuba has better healthcare than the U.S. ,AND a bigger literacy rate.
      Stop spreading imperialistic lies mshen!!

Excuse me? Are you from Cuba? Have you lived there?
My boyfriend's family is Cuban, and I can tell you exactly how it is down there. You are imprisoned, tortured, or killed for speaking out against the government. There is hardly any food or medical supplies. Villagers have to eat horse meat, and if they run across a dead horse in the road, they tear off hunks of it because they are starving.
They are allowed to buy one pair of underwear a month and they sleep on mattresses on the floor.
Don't you dare tell me that communism or socialism works better than capitalism.

    • there is a difference between communist states and socialist states.. learn, mshen.

"defendiendo el socialismo" is what is drawn on the wall when you say "communism" during the "what comes to mind when you hear the word cuba" intro you have.

      which translates to "defending socialism"

i don't know how you missed that since you speak spanish.

hope you don't think i am carping.. i just feel that if you are going to report on something, come close to the truth.

      significant details.

and thanks for adding the bit about luis posada carriles.. not too many report on him.

    • this is my favorite pod so far...........
its cool they think they are fighting the empire...
its just is really sad all those people are trapped in a war of the elites..... the black nobility(mafia) members have owned gambeling there long before.... they built veges
they work both sides and keep us in fear of each other.
i want the walls to fall

No, lifting the ban would be condoning Communism and the brutalities that Castro has inflicted upon the Cuban people for fifty years. Why should we reward Castro for his monstrosities?

    • nice pod! i had the opportunity to visit cuba years ago on an exchange, and i loved every moment of it. i'd hate to think what the country will be like when it's overrun by ubiquitous chain everythings.

    • Good piece that gives a pretty good sense and flavor for the place.
Only 90 miles from the U.S., but worlds apart. Cuba's one of my favorite places, and while it's easy for an American to lament over the imminent loss of Cuba's singular culture and society, you also have to wonder if/how the poor nation's economic liberalization will benefit the people.
