I am watching this on television *right now*, and it is so depressing and hilarious. And depressing. I think in England ten years ago, the going rate was about US$1.60 for every pound. Now I simply double every amount in my head and, oh my god, it adds up. I can't believe how, uh, well, *worthless* the U.S. dollar is.

No doubt we may have to suffer for a while longer. With the economy slowing the Fed may have to cut interest rates once more before the end of the year to ward off possible recession. If that should happen the dollar will weaken even more. However there is a light at the end of the tunnel. These things are cyclical and with the weakening of the dollar, US made goods become cheaper as exports to Europe, Canada, and Asia. The Chinese will have to slowly let the yuan rise probably not at the rate we want it to but eventually it will start to rise. As we slowly chip away at the trade deficit eventually the dollar will trend upwards again barring a major long term recession or god forbid a depression. The housing market will also weigh the economy down in the near term. Unfortunately all this will probably have to play out over several years and something new along the line of the internet or manufacturing revolution may need to come along and jolt the economy. Maybe something along the lines of an alternative energy revolution but that's for another post.

We usually think of the weak dollar as hurting our wallets while traveling abroad. But this article puts into perspective how it can affect us here in the U.S.

For the record, I'm really not that cheap..I was trying to be a responsible current employee!
but of course, anyone who's traveled to the uk or europe knows all too well how difficult it can be at the currency exchange. the dollar just isn't buying much these days. whether you blame our flagging currency on the ginormous current account deficits or china and japan's currency holdings, one thing's clear: it sucks to be an american tourist abroad right now. - 4 years ago

HI! I just discovered this channel on sky about three days ago after recording one of the documentaries on Mexican Narco Wars. It was soo good - great job by Laura Ling!! Looking forward to watching the toilet crisis on 2nd Aug - just saw the promo!
LOL!! This video is HILARIOUS! Don't worry it's not just americans who can't buy loads in London ... neither can the rest of us Brits!! It's overpriced to the max there you should have gone to Birmingham or Manchester would have been cheaper... oh i realise this was 2 years ago and with the current economy the pound has decreased a lot in power...
ANYWAY, I just want to say after watching this and some of your videos in India you're very entertaining and are a pleasure to watch. Keep up the good work!! :)
Are you open to suggestions on topics you cover?
If so, could you possibly do some videos or something on the drug usage in Punjab, North India? I notice quite a lot of the time Current videos south India or Mumbai.. Just asking because that's where my parents came from and when we go back and visit we hear all these stories of so many people getting involved in drugs.... So I really just want to know to what extent is true..
or
You could do a segment on the Indian Mafia and how they influence the Indian film industry of Bollywood, I’ve researched them a bit but I still don't know all that much about them... that would be interesting!
If you have read this just give me a reply so I know and thank you for your time,
Aman
