    • i iike the idea that people are interested in learning more about sharks, but i'm totally against chumming the water. it's a bad idea all the way around. the sharks are way more aggressive when food is around. if you really want to swim with sharks, get scuba certafied and go on a dive where you can actually be with the sharks in their natural states. you'll discover that the difference in sharks behavior when the water is not chummed is immense.

    • I'm a little baffled that an adrenaline rush for some privileged few outweighs concerns about disrupting the food supply to a wild animal, particularly when that disruption has not been disproved to lead to danger to other nearby people. I think creating awareness about a species such as the shark is better left to marine biologists that can genuinely educate more people in a more controlled environment.

    • Kaj and Jael did a great job on the shark pod. Because both surfer and chummer had compelling arguments it took me awhile to figure out where I stood. In this case I went against my inclination to normally disavow the commercial act of chumming because the endangered plight of sharks has to take precedence. Exposing people, albeit in cages, to those great animals is a step towards awareness and maybe salvation. Besides, as the Pod pointed out, there was no concrete evidence the sharks followed the boats and came closer to shore. Then again why should they go closer to shore when they have Jael to look at in a cage

    • Nice. I really liked the style of this piece. Great topic as well because I love Hawaii. I've never bee to Oahu though. Did you film the shark footage as well?

    • It makes good profit right? That seams to always be the case with American products and services. If it makes money they abuse it until there is nothing left to abuse!

Very good pod and subject but I feel it needs some point of views of actual experts on this subject.

    • i fish, surf, and dive the north shore regularly and have noticed an increase in shark populations. That surf instructors comments didn't do justice for the opposition to the shark feeding.

You should have interviewed a "kupuna" (native Hawaiian elder) and got their thoughts on the issue. Sharks ("Mano" in Hawaiian) are one of the main "aumakua" (ancestral spirits who take the form of animals).

While this may be a cool pod that you shot on vacation in Hawaii, its impact is much greater than a few more shark attacks on surfers.
