    • In the summer of 2005, Tracey Chang and I were working on a story on fake ID cards with Max and Jason, and in the course of it, got Virginia Kice, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE to agree to give us an interview in the big federal building in Laguna Nigel, in southern Orange County. If you haven't conducted interviews in federal buildings with U.S. government officials, it tends to be a bit formal, with officials wearing suits and what-not. That's why it seemed rather novel to me that Max chose to do the interview in purple flowered board shorts and flip-flops. To judge by the looks that we got walking into the building, it certainly struck the federal building employees the same way. But Ms. Kice was a good sport, and half-way through the interview, when Max served up a good straight line to her, she seized the moment... And she remembered us, because when the opportunity came along for a ride-along with an ICE Fugitive Operations Team, she offered it to us. In terms of our approach to this piece, given that this is a season of intense debate over immigration, Tracey, Sean Puglisi, and I thought that you should see this piece as unvarnished as possible... Here's what we saw following ICE one morning in Los Angeles County...
