Ground Zero Rebirth

Santiago Calatrava is the world-renowned architect and engineer behind some of the world's most breathtaking buildings, including the new transportation hub at ground zero which is scheduled to be open in 2009.




By 2020, the Port Authority expects the hub to serve 250,000 commuters and visitors daily.

    • it looks cool & seems like it might even be a good idea, but it still doesn''t address any of the real issues surrounding the myths of 9.11...i hate 2 put words in people''s mouths, but i think that even my man noam chomsky would see its just another shiny distraction, like an architectural super bowl!

      Művészetek Városa (Valencia) (Ciutat de les Art) területének 350 ezer négyzetmétert jelölt ki a Valenciai Kormány 1995-ben. A valenciai származású Santiago Calatrava lett megbízva a tervek elkészítésével.

      5 épületegyüttes szerepelt a tervekben. Részei: Zsófia Királyné Művészeti Palota (Opera) – (Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía), Félteke (L'Hemisféric) – 1998, Tudományok Múzeuma (Museu de les Ciéncies Príncep Felipe), Lugas (L'Umbracle). Calatraván kívül Felix Candela Outerino is dolgozott az épületcsoporton. 2003-ban adták át a (L'Oceanográfic) munkáját, mely az óceán világát mutatja be.

      Az építési költségek meghaladták a 250 millió eurót. Antonio Gaudi ornamentális művészetéből indult ki Calatrava. Az Opera beton felületeit kerámiamozaik díszíti. A két szárnyat burkoló fedőelem 3000 tonnáját csupán két ponton támasztották alá. Az Opera területe összesen 37.000 négyzetméter. Legmagasabb pontja több mint 70 méter. Négyezer néző befogadására képes.

    • From old dead and dying hulks, that were under-rented, and full of asbestus, the old buildings renewed nyc in the 1960's. Now nyc has a reason to pour million$ of tax dollars into something even less useful.

      Cover up the old containment shell and it's many mysteries. It gives new meaning to the phrase 'cover-up' doesn't it ...
