Turmoil In Tibet

clemwilson
Tibetan protesters in Lhasa have been given an ultimatum by the Chinese government: surrender or face severe penalties. China has also accused some Tibetan supporters who have been following the Dalai Lama of targeting and attacking several of its embassies around the globe. In a statement given to a news conference Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said, "I'd like to reiterate that the Chinese government will resolutely safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity."

    • word. tibet has not been "a part of china for hundreds of years" as the fascists say...they (Tibet and china) have been invading neighbors throughout history -- one invading the other and then the other invading the one -- but no annexation has ever been militantly enforced until the communist chinese takeover.

not sure why china hates the Dalai Lama so much. i've heard him speak more than once and each time there is no China-bashing. in fact, the Dalai Lama has stated he is Marxist.

the chinese government is just crazed with capitalistic imperialism right now...can you believe they actually passed a law stating that one has to obtain a government permit to reincarnate?

i'm crazed with frustration about what to do.

    • Although the blame for the recent protests remain in the air, what is clear is that China's reaction to Tibet's recent turmoil is one based on control and assimilation rather than freedom and thought.

    • The Dalai Lama has threatened to 'resign' following the unrest in Tibet, it's not the first time the spiritual leader has pledged such actions, but he faces mounting pressure from a younger generation of TIbetan protesters who want action instead of his pacifying tactics.
