Trash Buries Naples

The city of Naples is full of garbage. The dumps are protected by the army. The ground and the air are contamineted. The citizens are on the streets. But who is gaining in this unending story?

    • "Members of the Mafia in Naples, known as Camorra, have created a black market in trash and industrial waste. They traffic waste from the North and dump it in the Southern region of Campania. As dumps are filled with Northern waste, local trash has been piling up."

      I live in Italy and I know some of the troubles that affect my country.

      Trash in Naples piled up not only for Mafia.

      And the Northern part of the country (that's where I live) is by far the most efficient in recycling waste.

      We treat our own waste without sending it anywhere!

      We're self efficient and we pay our taxes to treat our trash!

      On the other side, Campania fills trucks and waggons and sends them throughout Europe in order to burn them, causing a huge negative effect on all Italian people and economy.

      You can imagine how expensive is packing and sending garbage to other countries.

      This clip reveals only part of the truth and hides the biggest problem that affect Naples: corrupt local administration!

      You are right and I didn't agree some changes. Anyway I was born in the North of Italy and lived there a lot of years (I am one of the few Italıans that emıgrate from North to South). Do you know what's "questione Mezzogiorno"? A kind of internal Colonialism.
      The richness and the development of the North was made on the skin of people from South. Can't blame them now, but surely hit local (and national) corruption.

    • I love this pod. My family is Calabrese, so I know about the issues in the south. However, they often go unnoticed so it is great that this pod brings it to peoples attention.
