Mahalo nui loa to Sambass for bringing some local political perspective and raising important issues. To bridge the gap between the video and the response is to discuss how Obama would not be able to attend Kamehameha High School without proof of Hawaiian blood line (race) and how his single mother afforded Punahou (a private high school at the time). It would also be interesting to hear what people think Obama's stance is on the Akaka Bill. Engagement goes beyond attending or watching the DNC.

Why not talk about the real story involving the Hawaiian delegation, the inclusion of Recognition of Native Hawaiian rights as part of the Democratic National Committee platform a.k.a. the Akaka Bill.
Dubbed the Akaka Bill in recognition of its sponsor, U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, it would set up a process reorganizing a single Native Hawaiian governing entity and reaffirming the special political and legal relationship between the United States and that Native Hawaiian governing entity for the purposes of continuing a government-to-government relationship.
Proponents say indigenous Hawaiians, like American Indians, deserve certain considerations for inhabiting land and having governments that were taken over by the United States. Opponents say the bill violates constitutional guarantees of equal protection by establishing a race-based class with special privileges.
Or we could just talk about how Obama went to the reporter's high school.
