DNC: Protests

In the streets of Denver, riot police and protestors were out in force, and a clash was inevitable.

    • Dear Americans,

I would like to propose a "NATIONAL STRIKE DAY" for every American that is able. I have heard France has been doing this with great success. Please let us get everyone engaged here and anywhere we can post this message or one of your own.

The Questions I would ask here are as follows: What day should it be and when and how often? Once a month to start or? I believe this would really give the people back their power in this country. It is time to take action! If we do not take some action now as our Declaration of Independence says we have the right and obligation to, it looks like our country will fall.

People are losing their homes by the millions, and jobs of course with it, and our government with the media's help are trying to hide it from us. They are going to let us just fall, we have to save ourselves, to many good people's lives are being ruined.

This is the responsibility of a free people. Be sure the world bankers have a diabolical plan for us and unless we truly want to be slaves, we have to do something. I am open to other ideas, or maybe someone is already doing this (I heard something). I plead with each American here on Twitter to get involved and support this idea, and everywhere else we can get this message out.

This will be a peaceful way to get our government's attention, while we take back our country. Trust me if George Washington and the many honorable men and women who fought our war of Independence were here today, they would have already taken action years ago, many years ago, and I doubt it would be very peaceful.

Thus, no one works until our demands are met. Start with say five or ten demands. So my idea, proposal is that Americans just go to the street, your city hall, or what is ever appropriate in your state. No one works until our demands are met. But absolutely No violence, no vandalism, no matter what please. That will destroy our honest political cause afforded us by our constitution. In fact, we should make, in my opinion that it is a very somber and quite sit in, almost complete silence until our demands are met, so they cannot try and intimidate people or arrest them unlawfully as they have been doing. I believe this is very important point, no conflict what so ever, just freeze everything. We are all allowed to stay home from work. We need to get employers involved obviously.

My list of demands start as follows:

1.) No more bail outs, but instead money is to be given directly to the American people.
I heard some experts are saying that this is the only real cure, some 450,000.00 to each American is the answer to our financial crisis. http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?=26321

      2.) Abolish the IRS, period!

3.) Reinstate our fourth Amendment rights.

      4.)

      5.)

I hope others will give their suggestions. I would recommend we elect a board and thus work to organize our first AMERICAN NATIONAL STRIKE DAY, or if someone has already started this, please if anyone is aware of this let me know.

    • Job security-just by showing up in riot gear. Without provoking potentially tense situations to a level of anxiety that results in violence or property damage, they might have to resort to being mall cops. Busting the heads of unarmed marchers or protestors exercising their 1st Amendment rights is good Fox News fodder & justifies the existence of both cops & Fox. In fact, isn’t that one of their most popular shows?

Funny how people protesting their support for the war are patriotic while those protesting against the war are subversives in need of a good beating, lockup, & charges that often result in a criminal record for trespassing or resisting arrest, which will haunt you later in life. People in power will do anything to stay there & create an atmosphere of anarchy around any group that doesn't support them. Fuckers.

    • Oh God, a lot of people here dont have a clue. Anarchists arent for disorder in fact the anarchist symbol of the -A- and circle around it actually refers to the Proudhon qoute that "Anarchy is order." Rather, anarchy is a philosophy that states that authority isnt justified and that people work with each other based on a horizontal structure instead of the vertical hierarchal structure that makes authority possible.

And as to anarchists fighting against the war at the DNC being counter intuitive as suggested above: Democratic rhetoric is mostly for show. People say what they need to in order to get elected. It's not about the party but the system!

    • Those protesters had every right to do what they were doing. As long as they remained peaceful, the cops had no business messing with them. Anyone there engaged in any type of violence or vandalism however, deserves to be locked up.

    • EdKnowsAll:

Everyone should have the right to protest about anything that concerns their beliefs and what troubles them

The marked difference between the protesters and the police is that they have placards bearing slogans and the police are in full fighting gear and mode

Therefore we have placard bearing slogans versus batons, tasers, shields, body armour, bulletproof vests and dogs plus the built in agression of the officers due to the equipment they wear

      Somehow this seems quite unfair

God bless the freedom and democracy that the US government stands for

    • Alex...look it up in Merriam-Webster, and think about it.
"1: a person who rebels against any authority, established order, or ruling power"
A group implies that others were following the leadership (or first steps of) someone at the protests, and thus a group of true anarchists is impossible.
A group of protesters would have been a more appropriate description.

    • jfkerman:

this is not necessarily true. the more black and white you try to be about anything, the more incorrect you become. you think anarchists cannot organize without a leadership? wow. where's the faith in humanity? just because it is a group doesn't mean there is a leader. it doesnt matter anyways because like i said, the more black and white you think the world is, citing the dictionary and such, the more trapped you are in your own argument.

    • A group of anarchists is an oxymoron itself. The point of anarchy is to leave behind laws and create disorder. While I support a peaceful protest, I would understand if the police needed to keep these people from creating a riot in the streets of Denver.

    • Thanks Roger for showing just a bit of the craziness that existed here in Denver during the DNC.

Denver was without a doubt a police state.

Good luck if you're headed to the RNC....

Sure hope you have a gas mask....

      Ride on!

    • Why not pack the police of to Iraq or Afghanistan they are certainly dressed for mortal combat. They would scare the shit out of me if they were to patrol the streets of the UK. I admit we do occaisinally have them on our streets but not with the amount of aggresion shown by the US law enforcement agencies

H.M the Queen, far more important to us than anyone on the planet walks freely through any town city or village
in our country.Any security hovers quietly in the background

Violence begets violence. The US police were looking for trouble the moment they donned their armour

    • Excessive force from both sides...Both sides should calm the F##@ down.

What the fillmaker describes as plastic bullets are actually paint or "pepper" balls, not bullets. The choice of words is disconcerting to anyone who has actually fired or been fired upon by a real gun with real bullets.

Not cool or effective journalism. This is sensationalism at worst and exageration at best.

    • I love how the office workers came out and joined with the protesters in calling for the police to let those they had trapped go. that shows more than anything the true spirit in America now. It's a sense that if we let these scared police/gestapo terrorize us any further we will loose what is left of the liberty our forbears passed successfully to us and that we now risk not passing to our children.

    • The amount of police force that was present in Denver during the DNC was beyond unnecessary, it was outrageous. I was present on more than once when the police, not the protesters, got out of hand. Harassment and profiling were fairly common place in my experience of the DNC as a citizen of Denver. I say we hold Hickenlooper responsible of this unwarranted aggression.
