    • I really enjoyed this video...it brought back a lot of old memories. Ya see my dad used to have his boat tied up right there in Terminal Island. The authorities did eventually kick him outta the water after 9-11. I remember sitting around the boatyard watching them unload those giant ships. The sound of the race track there on Terminal Isand used to keep me up at night. The constant squeeking of the "oil horses" pumping for oil. I am not sure what those things are called but I called them oil horses as a kid. Aaahhh the good old days of going to visit my dad, sleeping in that dirty old wheelhouse and watching...well you saw the video. Terminal Island will always have a special place in my heart.

The notion that we could secure everything all the time, is really an unreasonable one. The fact is that there will always be major vulnerabilities that can hurt us very badly.

Given a constraint on resources, we'd be better served by looking into ways we can address the root causes of terrorism, rather than stop-gap fixes that can never be comprehensive.

I don't sympathize with terrorism. But in dealing with it, it's important to listen, try to learn what the other side is asking for and ask why they resort to terrorism (no, they're not just crazy).

Also, to get to a point where there isn't a chink in our armor, we'll have to smother ourselves entirely. We can't secure everything from anyone and still have any civil liberties. So the paradox would be that by locking everything up, we would have left behind our most valuable possession: our freedom.

    • A great pod. Who knew that so much of the country relied on so few miles of coastline?

Also, appropriate music; well-edited, written, and structured; one of the best pods I've seen.
