Finding Inner Peace

Is there an art to living free of conflict on a personal, community or even global level? In this modern age can we find ways of resolving conflict without resorting to violence? One Indian guru thinks that by changing our brain activity we can change our behaviour.

Set up by the Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Art of Living is an NGO, which has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UN. With a 25 million member global presence the organisation delivers self-development programmes in 140 countries all using breathing and meditation as the main tools. As an extension of this the organisation also participates in global conflict resolution of the non- violent kind believing that the source of conflict is in the minds of the people. VC2 producer Dami Akinnusi experiences Shankar's course for herself and discovers that she starts to feel much calmer!

    • Hi Dami,
      Really nice video, its great to see how others outside India are also learning Inner Peace. I am sure if enough people in the world get an experience of their own inner source of joy and spirituality, most of the problems in the world will drop away like our tensions and prejudices.
      Do you practice regularly the techniques you have learnt at the German Ashram?

    • As a practicing hypnotherapist, I am amazed at the hesitation of people to take real action to go inside and do the work necessary to get mastery over inner conflict.

      I see people instead rushing into mass practices, joining into group ecstasy, as if they could catch enlightenment like a virus.

      One of my clients is an advanced Yogi, who while very aware of the spiritual aspects of his practice, constantly needs to be reminded and re-grounded in the basics of who is in charge of his own mind.

    • Excellent pod, great quality, etc., well done. However... he's just an Osho copy-cat. You'd be far better off if you go to see Ammachi next time she is in London (she goes there every year). In fact, she'll be in London this coming October 26, 27, and 28 - it is best to be there all three days (and late into the night), at Alexandra Palace , Wood Green, London N22 7AY.

    • I believe inner peace is a choice of how we react of our circumstances.

      He says that by changing our brain activity we can change our behavior and (later) that the source of conflict is in the minds of the people.

      With so much negativity thrown at us from every direction, it's no wonder our brains need a break. And, of course, conflict comes from our minds...where else would it come from?

      I say, take a media break (no offense to current!), walk outside, get to really know someone else so you can develop empathy and compassion, and look for the good in the things around us. It's there....it's just buried under a plethora of negative airwaves.

      If you take the time to fix your mind on the things that are good and pleasant and useful and of good report, the stresses of life have a way of taking a back seat.

    • Wow! I really enjoyed that I hope that soon I can appreciate life like its meant to be and not be stressed and "bogged" down. I'm trying to be healthier and make lifestyle changes to improve my life, although its hard to change years of bad habits but knowing that its for a better life.... makes it somehow easier. Thank you for this video!
