GG a.k.a gossip girl is a new era of teen legacy,
our parents had 90210 ( by the way the new one ..my PARENTS are STILL the only ones who watch it) which is L_A_M_E!! While it is superficial, that's not to say these days it couldn't happen. familiar plots?
I was hooked after one episode on season 2 of GG and I have to say I love how the characters are all intertwined and it's believable ..hey anything can happen! I watched it last night and all I can say is I REALLY hope they don't kill off chuck bass GG is nothing without him *sad face - 3 years ago

Plain old rubbish on the tube. I checked out five minutes or so of the show, and it's nothing but vanity.

I have never seen the show. I think these ads are totally genius.
It isn't tasteless or tacky; it IS, however, snotty. Great marketing is all about presenting yourself as completely edgy or defiant. And in this case, there's an underlying whiff of, "Good thing we didn't make it for your mom! We made it for you! We're not highbrow -- this is sleazy, sugary fluff you will love." And that message rings honest. It's a great ploy, because viewers are shrewd insofar as they're turned off by anything that seems disingenuous. Smart, CW. Smart.

The media can blame itself for having this all blow up in their face. When the media brings something to the attention of others, they're still promoting the issue by turning it into news regardless of positive or negative views.

I've never seen the show, but I must admit, an ad campaign that makes negative press work for you is both genius and absolutely delicious. It makes me want to watch the show because I just have to know what warrants the comment "wildly inappropriate" or whatever it was the PC said. I may just tune in to find out just how scandalous this teen drama really is...

Does anyone watch this show for other reasons besides the nice outfits?
It's one of the most vapid and weakly written things possible.
But you know, you know some highschool/junior high girl is using this show as a road map for reality.
If you love this show, crack open a book (not Gossip Girls), do community service, or start listening to NPR please.

People can't do anything harmless these days without being questioned...
Never watched the show but these ads are smart. it's like a punch in the face to the people who made those comments in the first place and... i like. - 3 years ago

Gotta agree. Its a smart PR move. and how many people can do that? Take the negative and make it positive. It's working..it's got allll of us talking...and front page of Current.

I like it. When someone dislikes your product and writes about it, that just helps with getting more attention. The fact they used the quotes that were meant to hurt them as a promotional tool is GREAT!! By the way Never seen one episode... HA!!!

I think the ads were brilliant. Everyone loves to pay attention to things that they are told are not suitable for them. It made me watch an episode. Ofcoarse, the show wasn't as interesting as the ad so I'll never watch that bile again but their PR firm deserves every cent.

Who cares how Gossip Girl advertises? It's on prime time which means that your 12 year old shouldn't be watching this racy show. If they are, thwap them upside the head and hand them a book.
More importantly, Isn't America still at war? Maybe we need posters and prime-time ads with Bush and co. giving it positive feedback so more people will decide to protest.

The ads are brilliant. The quotes are the exact reason why I (and I believe everyone else) love the show.

i really cant say much since Ive never been able to tolerate more than about 5 minutes of the show....but from an advertorial point of view the ads do reek of desperation. then again so do the 90210 ads also for the CW....I guess thats just their marketing campaign right now.

LOVE Gossip Girl. It replaced my guilty please of The OC. The reason I like it is that there is actually good relationships going on in this show. I can't stand when they start sleeping around. Of course the guys are a little iffy on that but it's not harped on so much by showing it. The show is witty and amusing and I like the shocks they toss in there.
And the main good thing is that the Humphreys have a family moment here and there...showing the importance of family. Just like the OC had a strong married couple that didn't falter like so many couples do in TV land.....they have a strong family sense that always wins out.
Plus since I don't read pop magazines it keeps me abreast of what is popular at the moment...I don't have to watch an episode of E! that doesn't entertain me.
As for the ads...they are mocking in a way that is awesome and smart and, of course, edgy.

Most of these sceens are flash backs in the show. They are only little snipets, not full fleged sex sceens like the pics make it out to be.

I have only watched the show a few times, but every episode is the same. I think the show is designed to leave you wanting more, but at the end of every episode you have that same empty feeling.

So I don't watch Gossip Girl and don't know if this kind of stuff is in the show as much as they show in the ads, but I say if they want to turn those negative comments into ads that push the line, I say ok, as long as they don't push that line too far.

This is so true. I love Gossip Girl but none of these "pictures" actually ever show up in the show. Gossip Girl was an automatic hit for anyone whose ever read the book and reeking of desperation is right.
