it's gonna take some time but i think the Hazzaras will find there place in the country. I also think that they will one day became a political power in that country, because there behind the scenses. While all the other groups are fighting & killing each other, there gonna get the upper hand.

Learning something new everyday, I didn't know about this or this ethnic group. This was a great pod and very interesting how things are shifting, there is still hope.

I'm sorry, but that's one of the most ignorant statements I've come across in a while. You mean the Taliban killed at least 10-25 million innocent people!? Or are you saying that most of Hitler's victims were not "innocent"?

Excellent pod. I have many warm memories of sipping tea with Hazara families in Kabul. Did you make it to Bamiyan?

I tried but a roadblock set up by discontented Hazaras stopped me before I could get all the way there.

Very informative. Another problem for us to try to deal with while we're there.

I am fascinated by colonizing ethnic peoples like the Hazars who went to settle into foreign lands. Like whites in Africa, Germans in Russia, Greeks in Asia, etc...
Very interesting to see the Mongoloid features in the Hazara people, but very saddening that they have to go through such hardship, especially the father with his family that lost their home.

Read , "The Kite Runner" for more insight, please.
Also, consider the DNA testing that has proven the reach of "Genghis Khan", as a Father of his Nation! - 3 years ago

"V", how is your response relevant to my comment? "The Kite Runner" is story of 2 half brothers, one a Hazzara, and their lives. It was written by an Afghani and it has been well received through out the World. Maybe you should read "A Thousand Splendid Suns", then you will be an even greater expert on Afghanistan.
There is a common belief in Mongolia that many claim descent from Ghengis. So in the interest of science a DNA project was completed and proved that indeed his bloodline extended to over 4 million Mongolians. Truly the father of his country!
Congratulations of living and studying Afghanistan, but how does your comment relate to my statement? We all appreciate the fact that you know more than everyone else!

MoonLoon - I don't need to read novels about a country and ethnic groups which I know well for having lived there and studied their cultures and history. I had many Hazara friends, I was scandalized by the way they were treated by the other ethnic groups, especially the Pashtoos. First-hand experience trumps novels every time.
Furthermore, I have never heard of a coin writing a novel. An Afghani is a coin in Afghanistan's currency. A person from Afghanistan is an Afghan.

Also, being twice and three times older than most of the people on Current, there is nothing extraordinary in the fact that I know more than most people on Current. When you reach my age, you'll be in the same position - if you are as curious and as well-read and as widely-traveled as I am.

With regard to Genghis Khan, he wasn't the biological father of the tens of thousands of soldiers of his horde, and the Hazaras are descended from members of his horde who remained in Afghanistan when he traversed the region.

I seem to remember stating that the DNA testing was conducted in Mongolia. It was completed in the last few years and aired on The Discovery Channel. I never suggested that it was a reference to the Hazara or to his army. However, since you claim Mongolian ancestry maybe you participated in the study and can verify your ancestry.
"Afghan", H'mm I thought that was a long haired dog or a knitted blanket.
If you are 2 to 3 times older than me you have to be between 120 and 180 years old. It is no wonder that you are so wise.

Are you most people on Current? No. Read my post again.
If you are sixty years old, you seem to have wasted most of your years and not acquired a quarter of the knowledge and wisdom you could have accrued.

Very educational! Great journalism.
I liked the reference to the civil rights movement. It is funny, but I never realized the global impact of the revolution.
It goes to show: the power of change is real. And far-reaching. Hopefully we as a UN will take interest in the Middle East. Interest outside of natural resources. Human interest.

This is amazing; I am assuming America does not get involved with their political affairs, amazing in the 21st century something like this can still be part of the everyday life, and share parliament with these people whom see to have no rights as citizens of Afghanistan. This would be similar to what I would happen in Zimbabwe. I hope the American Government is not helping the Islamic Majority Government in the continued deprivation of its' people.
