Old Time Kentucky Five and Dime

Chris_Lewis
This is a story about a general store in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. This general store has been in operation since the 1830's. In a world of large consumer demand we explore how this store has survived and continues to thrive in a Wal Mart dominated industry.

    • I live there! Well, not actually in Rabbit Hash, but I do live about twenty minutes from it.
And yes, it is one of the neatest places to spend a weekend. Especially now that there's a new mayor! (Haha!)

But really, if you want to see a real rural area, you should travel down to Eastern Kentucky (where I'm originally from.) Every town in like Rabbit Hash!

And I briefly noticed that someone had made a comment about drinking at Rabbit Hash. It's very true, the majority of Kentucky IS dry, save for the Northern counties. In Eastern Kentucky, it's also socially unacceptable to drink in public so it was a bit of a 'culture shock', so to speak, to go to Rabbit Hash and see everyone walking around with beer. Not to say it wasn't enjoyed anything...

If you get the chance, please visit the adorable town that is Rabbit Hash.

    • This is awesome! I live in Northern KY and work at a summer camp only a few minutes away from here- we go here all the time. Awesome story and great job.

    • I went to college at EKU, and when we ventured into rural KY it was a lot like this. I'm surprised they can actually drink here. Most of rural KY is dry.

    • I liked this. I recently spent a few days in Pineville KY, and found it to be very simple and nice. It was nice to see how you revealed and got up close and personal with the people in Rabbit Hash.

      Nice work.
