i have just watched the scallies short film and i was shocked to see it was neighbourhood , i am aware there are gangs in liverpool but that has painted the area as a war zone and it is not. i have lived here for a couple of years and there are scallies but there are some really lovely people and i have never had any trouble , i do see kids hanging about , but as the council and government have cut all funding what have the kids got to do , they have no where to go and that is why gangs are on the rise. so lets instead of showing such negativity and try show something more positive and putting the kids down

Maybe it's time we started being a lot more pro-active about finding ways that the young people can occupy there time. It's all good calling them 'scallies' and 'neets'. When you get a number like 200,000 that sounds like a huge wake up call to me. I remember growing up in a rough area of East London and felt the same kind of boredom and complete and utter uselessness that the kids are feeling out in Liverpool, it wasn't until I got to college that I realised I had to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle otherwise I wouldn't make it past 21. It's great that the problem is being highlighted but I do believe it's time we started to do something about it.

fuckin scallies are shit - we should have the ppolice death squads like in brazil. properly clean the streets up. or just get the police off their fat over paid arses and get on the streets and stop this shit. or dont they want to do anything about it - as u can plainly see its not getting any better

a great pod highlighting the things that actualy go on after dark in deprived aareas. the kids need somehting productive o do, ts a shame there isnt a 'secret millionaire' lurking around he corner or an active government that wants to improve these NEETS - army boot camp i think! that tey they can legally use weapons!

Not a bad pod, although I think you could have thought a little harder about the title. Access is always an issue with projects like this, so I think you should be commended for getting the boys to contribute.
Nonetheless, since Robbie was prepared to speak to you so candidly I would have liked to hear more of his opinion. He certainly told you like it was; but asking him why he thought things are the way they are around him would have gave us a greater insight into 'scallies' in Liverpool.

Good film but I don't really think the subtitles were necessary.

They spent millions turning Liverpool into the biggest building-site in europe and let SOME of the outskirts rot. Of course there's very affluent areas of Liverpool (like all cities) but just walk fifteen minutes from the shining glass and steel of the new L1 shopping centre and you'll come across an area like this.
Really, though, is liverpool any different from most of the major towns or cities in the UK? Manchester, Leeds, London, Glasgow, the list goes on. The only city I've come across that doesn't have a no-go area is York, but there probably is one known to the locals. Liverpool is only jumped on by the media because it's in the north, they have an agressive accent, and Thatcher sh@ all over us. Yes, that old chestnut, though it stands true today as it did in the eighties.

I've just figured out how to use this website. I agree that most other Northern cities are similar, but for me Liverpool was more visual and better to shoot a film in. Although I have made films in Salford, Birmingham and London with similar themes.
Cheers,

I agree with using Liverpool for this video. Liverpool is the 'posterchild' of all that is wrong in our inner-cities. I think it's because we do wear our hearts on our sleeves and will be candid about the crap we put up with.
I think that those 'down south' won't relate though, as Liverpool is a much maligned city. But then again, the jag-driving, suit-wearing council members of Liverpool probably wont relate either or they'd have done something about it after 20 years.
I hope I'll be proven wrong - eventually. - 2 years ago
