    • Miss California - I am so proud of you. Your apology immediately following your answer was unnecessary. You should never apologize for having the courage to state your opinion.

If Ms, Mr, Mrs, Frank, whatever, Hilton was offended, simply remember that he is a selfish man, or whatever.

    • The question in my "opinion" if I may use this word - is that it was unfair; unless all the contestants (Finalist), were asked the same question. And why should anyone be forced to answer it in this type arena. It's right up there with Politics and Religion, highly charged volitile issues. (Like, who should run the country, Democrats or Republicans? Protestants, Catholics or Jews?!) Some things are personal, and you should have a right to anonymity, until the proper setting.

Thus far we do have some 'personal rights' to Self Expression. It's not like you're going to hang someone for dissagreeing with the status quo.

Reminds me: I had a friend who whenever I made a slight giggle .reacting to my private thoughts, they'd ask, "What's so funny?" I'ed reply...."Just thinking!" It bothered me so, till I said, "If God had wanted you to know my thoughts, you'd be able to hear them!"

We can think what we like, it's speaking it that makes the difference...So don't force certain responses, to sensitive issues...unless you're willing to accept the reacton to them.

If you don't want an honest answer, or that persons' veiwpoint, then don't ask a question! Afterall it's their answer, not yours. And many contestants do fumble questions?! (She even apologized if she offended anyone) Duh!

    • who ever picked this tool to be a judge is a tool. Me thinks trump jr may be gay? she was the only one asked a charged question. of course she was shocked. this is not a polictical event, rally, pulpit. it is a beauty pageant. we all stooped watching miss America, as it became a talent show, . eliminate the questions entirely. miss NC should vacate her title if she had any class..

    • This has nothing to do with the girl - this is entirely about an aspect to SOME gay men, where they may take a certain social tac to cause harm or undercut others.

This guy, knowing that the probable shu-in for Miss America went to a Christian college, promulgated a specifically hot-button political issue question about gay concerns - pretending that it even appropriate in this context; and did so wholly and only to sandbag this contestant.

Then claiming it was SHE who was being inappropriately political. Pure and contrived BS; and sleezy.

Doing this was BAD for the pageant and BAD for gays. -Bad for the concerns of gays.

The pageant was ill represented, as were gay people.

Even though SOME gay men have always found it so delightful to be, and therefore represent gay men as, petulant and small minded, socially and intellectually.

Gay people ought to think about it.

What's all he crap about an answer including state's rights. Very few of you nutjobs believe in that. Liberals want it their way, now, for everybody. I loved her answer.

Hilton is a liar about boos. Listen to the audio. She is getting a huge applause! Clapping is good. Clap is bad. He is so confused!

The fact that he is even a judge is sad.

Cant they find a real man there. Perez should be a judge in a different kind of context if you know what I mean

lol! Soleil10, according to sexologists, psychologists, and sociologists, your definition of what a "man" or "woman" should be is a form of sexism that was very prevalent before 1980s.

Remember, women are no longer confined in kitchens anymore. Feminist movement took care of that.

It doesn't matter what sexual orientation the person is.

Angl. I am quite open minded, true femininity is unbelievable and is not stock in the kitchen

The feministas of the 80s and 90's are scaring men away. Homosexuality is increasing and for good reasons. Many of the professors you mentions are themselves confused and spreading non sense.

A true woman attracts men like honey. Even gay men would think twice.

      Homosexuality has many causes.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have found my complementary partner.

I could have easily be confused by the world around me. It just did not make sense. Our life cant be run by your sexual urges.

We have to use our head even if it is hard to grow up.

This Hilton guy is hurting himself even if he does not know it. He will find plenty of people to support his behavior.

You can challenge the law of gravity but it will still exist.

Same sex attraction is a trap. Like every addiction, the deeper you go in it, the harder it is to be free from it.

It's a fact that biologically same-sex relationships don't lead to procreation, but humans have long lives and free will. There are many who don't have children, and lead normal, fulfilling lives. Again, you go beyond simply defending marriage and condemning a whole group of people.

Women don't need to attract men. Feminists only scare away the men who want a stephford wife. A girl I like is very feminist, and I'm highly attracted to her.

Earth, where people all have different ideas about the world. Women do not need to attract men because they do not need to rely on men for support in all cases. My female friend is very independent. Most women are just conditioned from childhood, to be meek and reliant on men.

    • soleil10:

I was not talking about women needing men for financial support.

May be something like needing love, friendship protection, masculine strength and caracteristics.

You have such a class warfare thinking. You may want to study in what way men and women are different, communicate differently and have different needs.

Our educational system is not interested on teaching kids how to build ideal families. The focus is on how to make money in the futur. It is very sad.

Fortunately there are many great people now offering seminars and programs on these genders differences and relations.

It is no too late to learn before gays add their confusion to the feministas.

Oh soleil10. You have become more pathetic as you continue posting. You talk as if you know what you're talking about when you really don't even understand what you're saying.

Don't try to portray yourself as a "kind and gentle" person when you're really not. You are not openminded and don't try to pretend you're one. You're extremely malevolent as exhibited through your words and actions against homosexuals. The only reason you can't see it is because you feel "justified" by your "god"

And do I have to remind you that the Church did not support the feminists movement? Don't tell me that I'm lying or incorrect. You refuse to face the facts by dodging what has already happened. Or should I bring up the video of Anita Bryant explaining on national tv that the feminist movement was destroying the institution of the family? Even worse is when you like to link two unrelated things together and then conclude that one is causation for the other. Don't pretend you're intelligent because you're not.

And the nonsense about women and men? It's all bullshit and you know it. You are still preaching how a woman and a man "should" be. And I didn't say anything about my professors. Apparently, you assumed that my school is teaching me "propaganda." How typical that you have to try to convince yourself by ignoring facts. Whether you like it or not, facts are out there and you refuse them because they contradict and challenge your ideals. How pathetic.

As said, you have become more pathetic as you post. Your dodging and ignorance of facts is evident, your lack of knowledge is disheartening and laughable and what is worse is that you feel justified, hence the "I know what the fuck I'm talking about" attitude.

Don't pretend and don't lie, go back to the hole you were raised in.

P.S. Ooo, I cussed. If you try to discredit and ignore me because I used some "oh so bad words," I'm going to assume that you don't have anything to say. Funny that you finally are responding to my responses to you when you would always ignore me. I feel so damn special now.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, we are living in the USA where we still have FREEDOM of opinion. She was asked a question and answered honestly. Perez is volatile in that he said if she had won he would have jumped on stage and yanked her crown off.

      Viva opposite sex marriages!

    • Like I've already said on another website, if she had wanted that title so bad she would have given a more mitigated answer, without necessarily compromising herself and her beliefs. It's like when I go to job interviews, I sometimes don't agree with the company's policies with whom I am interviewing, but I tend to go with its spirit at least until I am hired.

Whatever her beliefs were she could have "played the game" until she got the crown, but it was more important for her to "stand by her beliefs." Commendable but totally stupid, since the Miss USA pageant is not the venue for political debates. She could have voiced her beliefs all she wanted once she had won.

Good for her if she has no regrets, but according to Perez Hilton, the minute she gave the answer, she knew she had lost the title. And Perez also confirmed on CNN that she was booed but the producers edited that part.

Also, to make things clear, I don't like Perez Hilton, obviously he had some hidden agenda, but the only thing I am saying is that if she wanted to win, she could have approached the answer a little differently. If she is comfortable with how things went, then good for her.

    • This is really rediculous, a young women gives her honest and whole hearted opinion on marriage and she is cut down by the gay agenda. This has nothing to do with religion or belief in a god, it has to do with respecting each others views. Mr. Fagalah Perez asked a question, while pushing an agenda and then he got cut down. What an ass, he should have known better but to push his agenda. This is so disgusting! I have nothing against gays...but this question crossed the line of what's appropriate for a pagent. It had nothing to do with her capabilities as miss america. Ucchhh this is sad. Hollywood is pushing this agenda and we are buying it folks!!!

    • Why is this attracting so much attention? A gay man asked a conservative Christian woman her opinion on a gay-rights issue and she responded with her honest opinion. Is this important because she didn't obfuscate to win a contest? It should be "news" only if she deviated from the traditional conservative Christian viewpoint. She didn't. So what.

    • She is just not that bright. She could have easily answered this question without lying about how she really feels because of how she was "raised"(yeah, blame your ignorance on your parents like every other idiot out there who knows deep down their beliefs are nothing but bad ideas!)
I think the question was very fair, and she could have easily and calmly stated: "In my personal life, because of the way I was raised (to be close minded and blind to the truth about human nature and genetics) I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and bind two people for the rest of their lives, until death, no matter what. But what I love about America is that we are all equal and free to choose, and if straight couples are allowed to divorce, Everyone should have the right to choose who they want to be married to, because the sanctity of marriage the way I was raised to understand it (without trying to understand it for myself) has already been obliterated centuries ago by allowing divorce. Luckily, my beliefs which I was raised with allow me to pick and choose what I consider sanctimonious, holy, and blessed by God, based on my own personal opinion and convenience, just like the government. God Bless America! Yay!

The day I am forced to take her opinion as my own, or she mine, that, I will not accept. I think people should be able to be with and love one another regardless of sex, race or religion. There need to be age barriers. Other than that, It is none of my or your concern.

    • She is being made fun of not because of her opinion (though I do think she's on the wrong side of the issue) she is being ridiculed because she had a Ms. South Carolina and the maps moment. 1. if you are living in 46 out of the 50 states, you can't choose. 2. it's not opposite marriage, it's opposite-sex marriage or more commonly heterosexual marriage, hell even traditional marriage is understood. 3. she was competing in the Miss USA pageant, so in addressing her audience she should have been talking about our country, since the majority of the people there were American.

Also, for the people griping with the question they asked ridiculously politically charged questions of all the contestants, from the bailout to sending aid to Afghanistan, she wasn't picked on, she was just more ignorant and inarticulate than the rest.

      - Humans are no asexual.
      - A Penis goes into a Vagina.

The legal entity was put there by people, the penis and the vagina was put there by God, the same one you named. And if you are the type of evolution style, then the Particle made it this way and that is how it is. Any other type of sex, between same gender, animals and other, is abnormal, not anatomic and is sexual depravation. Your are just so sucked into your own world that you forgot what a Penis and a Vagina are. If you still have question, please ask your Mommy or Daddy.

    • As I commented on another post on this, if the question had been about interracial marriage, and she had given a similar answer, the black judge probably wouldn't have been too happy about her response either. The contestant should have been a little better prepared for a question like this coming up.

Also, as I posted there, for a look into the rather creepy mindset of those who oppose gay marriage, check out Current's post of the National Organization for Marriage's video "The Gathering Storm." I was going to post this video myself, but somebody else already beat me to it.

It's not about her opinion on gay marriage that should be the topic of discussion; rather, shouldn't the judges have asked such a question? Sure, if she said that every state follow suit in legalizing gay marriage, then she would have won for her open mindedness to change and blah blah blah.

But in all honesty, why does her one opinion on a definition of marriage weigh so much on receiving the crown of Miss America? So what if she does side with a traditional view compared with today's world? Have previous Miss America contestants answered such a question like that, a question whose answers split the country in half?

I don't think the question was a valid one to ask. Her opinion on gay marriage shouldn't affect whether or not she gets the crown.

Then again, she didn't answer the question :)

If some Neo-Nazi came up to me a spewed hatred I'm not going to step back and say, "gee, I totally respect the fact that you are true to yourself and you were able to be honest with me."

      What?

Bottom line. I don't agree with this woman. Saying she was "courageous" for being a bigot (which isn't going to far) is beyond my comprehension.

Homosexual rights and Heterosexual rights should be parallel. She has freedom of speech and so does Mr. Hilton. Until both grasp that idea and live by it..no one will be equal.

    • What a Luh-Loser! I was actually more shocked by her adulteration of English and its syntax than her deer-in-the-headlights response.

For know, I am just happy that this tragically-ignorant answer will go down in history as the response that cost someone the Miss America title.

In all, I consider that a huge victory for America.

Heranswer just made er the most formidable and credible opponent to gay marriage. What a fucking idiot Hilton is to put his cause in that position. I am elated.

    • Whatever, homey. Is that insulting to you too? I promise not to respond to you anymore - say whatever you want - just stop being a bitch. "Unlike you" - unlike me - you are GAY and proud. I got it. Fine. I am OK with that. I don't mind. Really. Now leave me the fuck alone. I have an MD - does that make you feel any worse or better? And if you ever get sick, I won't discriminate against you when you come to my office... OK, toodles... Hahaha

For my gay friends here - hahaha. No, it's not male urology, its nephrology. As for my reasons for being against marriage for gays - what does it matter to you - I'll never convince you, just like you will not convince me - we can agree to disagree on this issue. Again, I have no problems with gays - again - it's your choice, or your life, or whatever other reason you have for being you. But to me - "marriage" is a legal union of a man and a woman. Plain and simple. That doesn't outlaw gays from having life-long partners, inheritance, etc. The more you guys push the issue of "gay agenda" - the more you push the "straights" away. Leave it alone - you don't have to feel like you need to constantly impress upon us the fact that you're gay - we got it.

This girl answered truthfully, according to her beliefs. For that, she was insulted, ridiculed, etc. So because she disagreed with that "nobody" and didn't pander to his interests and a loaded question - she lost the competition and was assaulted. If you think this promotes better understanding and relations between the gay community and the straight majority - I believe you are wrong. I repeat - Perez is a bitch for acting the way he did...

    • Wrong again, Igordy -- I adore women. It is precisely that sort of ignorance that suggested to me you were not educated -- well, that and your persistent use of insulting, pejorative phrases like "flamo." You see, Igby, unlike you, I draw conclusions on the basis of evidence, not ignorance, and the evidence you present of your homophobia is overwhelming.

    • no u tards its bc she called it opposite marriage, not bc she disagreed with a cewebrity. anyone that doesn't remeber that it is called heter-marriage or opposite sex marriage is just as dumb as miss teen south carolina...anyone else see the similarities?

    • Hahaha - OK dh - let's not turn this into your and my war - like I said - I don't have a problem with you or gays. I am not afraid of them either - but I repeat - I don't like the "flaming" variety, much like you might not like women! As to your insinuation about my level of education - I am not even going to dignify you with an argument on this subject. Much like the flamo Perez, you are resorting to insults and thereby showing your true face... So, have a nice, gay evening - hahaha...

    • No, igordy, your twisted attempt to express your homophobia while claiming you "don't have a problem" with people being gay is simply more evidence in support of proposition that the issue is within YOU. Newsflash: "flaming queers" is derogatory, and "I know you know that." You contend that you "don't push [your] straightness in [my] face," and then immediately seize upon your ability to procreate as a basis upon which to distinguish yourself from gay men. If you think hard about what you learned when you were preparing for your GED, you will remember that Gay men CAN procreate -- "and I know you know that." My challenge to you, Igby, is that you give yourself a break. You're not the first to attack that which he fears, nor will you be the last. Yeah, acceptance can be painful, but I promise you that it's all good on the other side. And the flames won't even singe you -- you'll see.

also, because i find it impossible to restrain myself from checking privilege when i see it, a telling parallel to some sentiments expressed further up in the comments regarding "flaming queers": say that someone said to you "i hate it when black people act too black. i don't flaunt my whiteness, why should they flaunt their blackness?" what would you think? i personally would consider that goddamn preposterous, and i think most people would agree. so why do some think that's an ok thing to say about gay people? i see it all the time.

here's the thing: heterosexuality IS shoved in my face. now, i don't care, but it's everywhere and that is undeniable. nobody thinks about it because it's the social norm, which is the exact nature of privilege. let's look at a few examples: in the vast, overwhelming majority of movies in which there are sex scenes, is it straight sex or gay sex? do you assume people are straight or gay? husbands, how do you feel about kissing your wives in public? you feel pretty ok about it, right?

"What you do in the privacy of your own home is your business - entirely yours and not mine."

If you really believed this, why would you have voted against gay marriage? That makes no sense to me.

Because to me - Marriage is a union of a man and a woman. Sorry, such is my personal belief - not from God, but that's what I believe. I have a right for my personal beliefs - no matter if you agree or disagree. Franlkly, I don't give a fuck about your agreement with it or not - just as you shouldn't give a fuck what my belief is - since it doesn't have a bearing on your lifestyle. You are gay - by choice or not - it's not my concern.

As to the straightness being pushed onto you - buddy - your mom and dad are (were) straight. if they didn't kiss, hold hands and fuck - your sorry ass wouldn't be here. See my point? If not, I can spell it out for you... That's a dumb stance you've chosen for yourself there...

    • Amazing -- igordy decries what he calls "hateful comments" on Perez Hilton's website, and then refers to him on THIS site as a "flaming homo" and derides what he calls "flaming queers" . Guess what, igordy? Your ignorance and fear about gay men and lesbians speaks volumes about your own dark, confined place that you obviously call home. Know what else? Thankfully, current.com is NOT a place where you can spew your branded homophobia with impugnity. Yeah, idordy, this is one flaming queer who actually pays attention to the community standards. Bubbye.

    • "I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other."

Why is no one talking about that line? That's the line that's offensive.

Americans don't have the choice in her home state of California or in Nevada where the pageant was held.

So I assume you would feel the same if she had said that she was raised to believe that black people should ride in the back of the bus? Would you praise her honesty? I m sure her parents, and grand-parents were raised to believe that blacks shouldn't be educated, shouldn't use the same bathroom as whites, and eat in the same restaurants. Yeah honesty...
I agree that she was free to state her opinion, but as a human being she sure could have shown a little bit of sensibility. Gay marriage is a hot topic, she should have known better. Again, a more mitigated answer would have been a better choice.
