I think stories like this are really incredible. I've been to Buenos Aires many times but you will never get the chance to see something like this because the Government makes sure that tourists never get to see this, it's the same as in Brazil. It's just horrible to think that someone actually found a way to take the by-product of cocaine and make it into a drug, a drug that lasts for about 10 minutes and leaves you addicted, thirsting for more. Basically, it's the ultimate drug to sell to the poorer classes.

I visted B.A. lasted year and I plan on going back really soon and Paco was one of those things that stuck out in my mind becasuce I saw people doing this in the streets but there where groups of well dress young people at a night clubs one night that I was there. I even know a young women who would doing it on her breaks at work and you would never know it. It could be a problem and I'm glad that there is something being done about it. I love B.A. it is one of my favorite places but just like Crack in the U.S. Paco could really impact a culture.

Can't wait until we get something like that here in America. Those were the most cheerful crackheads I've ever seen. Productive too.

Drug addiction is universal and shouldn't be politicized, ignored, laughed at or blamed on any particular people, place or circumstance.
"Paco" is known as "Bazooka" in certain parts of NYC. Though spoken in a different tongue, the pain and anguish is one of the many common threads I see when I come across docs such as this.

My best friend of 25 years (my children call him Uncle Mike) works as the head of security for the local hospital in the psychiatric ward and he was scratched to bits just 2 nights ago by a woman weighing only 100lbs because she was SO high on "cheese" that she was going to kill everyone around her when she found out she was being confined for her own protection.
This is a guy who, at 6'3" and 260lbs will walk into any situation with confidence, said she was like a rabid wildcat and no amount of control holds or anything else would work.
When she "sobered" up about 20 hours later she was in tremendous pain due to the muscles and ligaments she tore while on her rampage. She begged and cried for some cheese for hours and when she was told she was in for no less than 72 hours she went berserk and tried to kill a nurse with her bare hands.
She's now looking at several criminal charges for assault and will likely end up in jail or worse. All for a disgusting mix of pills, cocaine and who knows what else.
My friend will be getting blood tests for a month now to ensure she didn't transmit anything to him in the process of clawing and biting him. He was really trying to help her and this is his reward. He's glad he never followed some of our "gang" from childhood who went into public sector law enforcement.
I can imagine how horrid this drug must be for the people in that area. Medical attention is the only thing that MIGHT help. That's only if the addict will accept help.

This is supposed to be a story about Paco, but more so, it's about addiction.
A horrible thing but it is still something that we can overcome.I would be very interested in a follow up pod to see how that guy is doing in a few years. He seems to (atleast) acknowledge he has a problem. That's a step in the right direction. Even though he says he won't quit..

I really enjoyed this. I had never heard of this drug. I learned alot from this pod. It seemed very real and honest. I appreciate the honesty of the guy that said if given the oppty to have a house, family, good job, etc. he wld turn it all down and instead keep smoking paco. Also how in the midst of what looks like living in hell these people were laughing and seemed to be having a good time. I guess that is addiction.

I guess it could get here, but if it does I feel sorry for anyone that might get addicted to it??? Really really sorry for them. God forbid it ever comes here to the US.But, crack is the same thing I guess? But, alls we need is another drug like this that will kill more addicts. I hate all drugs and the people that make them. Also the people that make money from them too! (don't worry they will get there paybacks!)

Debrinconcita,
People that distribute drugs, at least in ghetto situations, are doing so because they have no other way to support themselves. Some even give back to their own community and families with the money. I'm not defending the morality of their profession (the effects of drugs are horrible), but I see them more as a helpless part of the deadly system of drug production, distribution and consumption. If we're going to hate anything, it should be the system as a whole, not the people in the system that have no other option.
It's great to hear your story that you posted above about overcoming your. It's very encouraging.

did anyone read Debrinconcita profile... she is new to the board and a recovering addict. lets not jump all over her- while i am pro marijuana openly and believe we should have a system just like the Netherlands- she is entitled to her feelings and opinion. i just wanted to throw that out there. we all don't have to agree - but we can all learn from one another. hugyz guys.

I totally disagree with pinto...these dealers don't sell because they have no other options, they do it because it is an easy way to riches. Rarely do they give back to the community other than spending money there. Coke dealers do not care about their communities...just the communities money. Welcome aboard Deb.

I'm not trying to make sweeping generalizations about drug dealers - some of them do fit your description, Shawn. But I do know of some who definitely do it because there is no other way to bring themselves out of poverty, and some who are generous with their money. I'm trying to make the point that drug dealing is often a more complicated situation than it seems: it isn't always black and white and it isn't easy to pin down who is completely in the wrong. Should we blame the oppressive system before we blame the individual?

I am sorry if people didn't like my feeling about drugs and addiction. It's too close to my heart and I feel too much Fierce Passion about this subject. I am sorry if anyone got offended or didn't like my comments, but I don't agree with some other people comments either, but I deal with it. (To each his own!) RIGHT!!! ISN'T THAT THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, MAYBE IT'S JUST ME. I have a long way to go on my Recovery okay. I will check myself before I make anymore comments okay!Debra in Portland, Oregon.

This is the most saddest story I have seen in a longtime. I am a former addict of cocaine and Heroin. I am so glad that God helped me to get out of this deathly lifestyle. I got help 2 years ago.Now I have been clean & sober for 2 years. I will never go back to an addictive lifestyle. I see how it was and they reminded me of how crazy and addictive you are when you need the drugs. I feel really bad for them. Only God can help them now. They need help so bad it's heartbreaking to see them. I feel really really sad for them. I am happy there is no PACO here.

I know because I used to be one of them.I was so damn selfish, I didn't care what happened to anyone, as long as I made money. Of course all people have needs and need money. But, there are other ways to make it. I do know that now, I didn't have any choice before, because I was an addict. I had to use so I had to sell to make money to use myself. It's just a never ending circle until you stop it from going around anymore. Like I did, so I don't have to go to jail anymore.
