In this pod, we meet two young women who have moved from the United States and the United Kingdom to Israel in order to enlist in the Israeli Defense Forces. They talk to us about their decisions to join the IDF, as they wait to be called up while living on a kibbutz.

    • I am a die hard patriotic American Christian who loves Jesus Chist. If you are too, then you know Americans have always supported Israel, that is until Obama(the Antichrist) took power in our country. Im considering moving to Israel to fight with God's poeple.       Wake the fuck up - there are no two sides. If you still don't know which way is up - you've been duped into believing something that is completely falst - that Israel is an aggressor and poor palestinians are victims. Google "pallywood" - it should open a few eyes. Go to memri.org - this should dissolve all the doubts. If you've only been subjected to the CNN view of the conflict - you've been fed what Al-Jazeera wants you to see. Israel doesn't allow press on the battlefield - out of safely for itself as well as its own soldiers. Al Jazeera shoots from behind the Palestinian "lines" - so the only available feeds are from them. Now do you really think they are they to present balanced news?

      No side has the monopoly on inhumanity or brutality. How you can claim Israel has any semblance of a moral high ground after Shatila and Sabra is beyond me. And I'd be very careful with your terminology - throughout history there have been many races branded as animals. The most poignant, given this topic, would be the Jews in Germany in the 1930's. The situation in Israel has been perpetuated by blood thirsty militia, dogmatic zealots and inadequate politicians on both sides. Don't let them turn you into another cog in the mechanics of history repeating itself.

    • i know of 3 people(2 were good friends) that did the same in the 1970"s. One stayed and has spent his life there. All felt rewarded....

    • it is dificult to believe or understand anything said by either side. this whole subject displays to the world the worst humanity has to offer. it is hate in its purest form. both sides i believe share that hate. all i know is that you can see the israeli soldiers they were uniforms, but the bad guys do their best to blend in with civilians and take advantage of their surrounding so it is no surprise to me that inocent people get caught up in the middle. what are you gonna do? im waiting to see who's God comes to the rescue....

They've endured a continued assault to seize it, a loss of their personal and economic rights and a denial of any chance for justice or their very humanity. Yet it's never broken their spirit as they continue their heroic efforts to survive and struggle to gain their freedom.

      this is a well done video showing a side of israel that current tv videos rarely show. israeli soldiers are not monsters and the commenter's videos don't ask why are they doing these things? do you know that in gaza, children are used as human shields? do you know that these schools that israel has to blow up are used to store rockets that get shot into israel?

      liberals need to start looking beyond the "human rights issue" and think what it would mean to get on a subway or bus to work and worry about it getting blown up. i'm not right wing by any means, but i can at least see the fact that israel has a right to defend itself. it's too easy to be anti-israel, to call it a human rights issue instead of digging deeper.

    • With all due respect, who is stupid enough to head there and join their army! If people are brainwashed from the unfair media, they really have to dig wayyy deeper to see the REAL picture.

      I am not saying this out of any kind of pre-inforced ideals or ideas but rather from feedback from people I have spoken with who clearly reflected their experiences thoroughly.

      I believe there was a specific clip on Current TV here that shows a documentary about israeli soldiers getting sick of the inhumane policies and unjustified killings they were ordered to do.

      God bless the innocent souls regardless to where they originate and come from, and may God punish and torture all guilty and those hand-blooded killers.

    • I have met many young people who have moved to Israel with high ideals............................but I have also met many disillusioned people who have made the move.

      In Israel everyone is an army reserve. They have radio codes to call people up in time of war....................sometimes someone gets the call to go to the army and they just get up and go.

      Why is going to war so glamourised.

      Dreadful chemicals have been given to warriors ...like the anthrax antidote....that has lots of cause and effect in later life................and usually the veterans can't prove the case because the big guns swamp them.

      Being in Israel is like being in a semi state of war...........................it's a bit of brainwashing like they use on the Islamic martyrs.

      I'm an independent thinker and I want no part in all that deception.

      No war for me thank you. If the idiots want to go to war let them. Same with the sucide bombers.
