Current spends some time with City Repair, an organization based in Portland that aims to build a more "community-oriented and ecologically sustainable society" by reclaiming areas in various neighborhoods and building things that bring the people together. From placing benches and structures in areas for people to sit in and talk, to putting kiosks up for posting local events, to painting large murals in intersections and parks, it is a great way to bring communities closer together and make those areas feel bonded.

I live there and haven't seen any of these places. My colleagues and I are out and about in the city daily too. One of the best things that our city has been doing, and I didn't see them showcasing this, are with the green roofs in the city. We're starting to see more and more rooftops with all manner of foliage on them.
Adds a very hobbit-like feeling to the city from the air.
