Not to mention a lot of our prisons, for those who don't know this, are privately owned and for profit. Dick Cheney is a big owner of prisons. They contribute lots of money to the local community and in turn the Sheriff's return the favor.

The Swiss also never get invaded because they never take sides. Hell even as the whole modernized world divided between the Axis and Allied powers during WW2 they remained neutral.

That is such an awesome story, curtisreed, my brother has a son and daughter and we both teach them to defend themselves and handle weapons. I pity the boy who pisses her off the first time, she's got biceps and she's only 8.

A large part of the laws and regulations in this country are to pay for marble and cherry courthouses. Non-violent misdemeanors are nothing more than taxes. That's why you have to watch every step you take in this country or you might get a ticket (tax).

Alexander Hamilton explained in 1788:
[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude[,] that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens.

Recently I came across an interesting article about one town in Germany that achieved a great improvement in traffic accidents after ALL traffic lights and stop sighs where removed. Positive outcome can be accomplished without regulations or enforcements.

Yeah, modern technology can't predict everything right all the time. My mantra is self-accountability, and that situation says it. Rely on yourself to do it right, act right and follow the rules. (Even with all the traffic lights at peak times traffic cops were a God send!)
People are in such a hurry to get everything done to get ahead they've lost the true meaning of humanity. - 2 years ago

The amassing results were accomplished as people did not have a false sense of security depending on the traffic lights. Instead everyone was more careful and slowing down at the intersection. There was cooperation between the drivers as there were no signs to control the right of way. Each driver in fact had absolute responsibility for each other's safety. The results where amazing!
Similarly, crime in Sweden is low as everyone has the responsibility for their safety instead of "tough on crime" false sense of security, US has the highest percent of population in prison as well as high crime. It would be logical to stop doing what does not work and learn from those who accomplished great results.

Beautiful. It's exactly what I've been saying for a long time. The Swiss know what our founding fathers know:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. "Now, how can anyone with any intelligence at all say that it was not the intent to allow the people to maintain modern arms as a bulwark against tyranny?
And folks wonder why gun sales have soared even in the midst of this most recent economic turmoil.

Sounds too simple to be so easy a solution. Gives kids self-discipline and respect for ownership, their country and their countrymen. As well as respect for and knowledge of proper use and safety of firearms - 2 years ago

I just heard (literally) that the Swiss are discouraging the construction of new huge Islamic minaurets in neighborhoods that don't really serve to a large population but they have noted an increase in the radicalization occurring in these mosques.

Really, it is. When people are allowed to carry firearms the crime in those towns goes down.
Criminals don't want to mug or attack an armed target.

I teach both my son and daughter martial arts (they are studying Tae Kwon Do) as well as proper gun etiquette; how to shoot, how to handle safely, and I am slowly purchasing arms so they will all have their own mini arsenal when they are young adults.
but you are right. the trend to "soften" our boys and the attempt to feminize them is not only a sin against nature, it's a threat to national security. we can teach them how to resolve conflicts through non-violent means AND teach them how to defend themselves with controlled violence if necessary.
One of my proudest moment was when my daughter told a boy to keep his hands off her several time and when he failed to respect her, she kneed him in the balls, dropping him to the floor like a sack of potatoes. He protested to me, but when I asked him "Did she tell you not to touch her?" Yes. "Did you touch her?" Yes. "Then she had the right to defend herself. Keep for damned hands off my daughter, or next time she may hurt you even worse."

Exactly, smart decision to teach your children to speak up for themselves, protect themselves and resolve the challenges with dignity. I am tired of society with brainwashing that women are "victims" and need more protection and men are aggressors and need to be feminized. - 2 years ago

Every young man must have military training! The Swiss wanted to be able to raise an army quickly to protect Switzerland and it's people. With the proper training this IS possible.
