A Japanese reader named Mika has written to ask how the foreign readership of this site views Japanese girls with yaeba:

I research what foreigners feel about Japanese culture.
Especially I am interested in Yaeba.

Yaeba means double teeth/crooked teeth.
As I understand, Only Japanese feel it cute.

I am Japanese girl and have Yaeba.
Japanese say to me your teeth is cute.

Please comment about Yaeba in your blog.

Those seeking more information on yaeba are asked to check this blog post in English, as well as this slide show of Japanese girls with yaeba.

It's interesting to see how different cultures define beauty so variably.

    • "Saddling in?" Tooter, you smooth DOG, you must drive the women CRAZY with that kind of love poetry...as you saddle up, I mean...

But I agree that all of these girls strike me as "cute," and their teeth don't detract from that. But they are what, 12? When they get to their mid-20s, most women want a look that is a little deeper than "cute," and I am not sure they won't regret not getting braces by that point.

I also know a lot of women who are still quite beautiful in their 40s and 50s. But at that point they all seem to pretty much be in agreement that ANY advantage helps...like a "beautiful" (as opposed to merely "cute") smile. On the other hand, I COULD just be trying to justify the three grand hole my 15-year-old's braces just left in my checkbook...

    • Actually, I concur...much more adorable...than...say, the British. Much apologies to the British readers of this. Maybe it is the almond eyes that makes it tolerable.

I remember reading something a bit back about Japanese men (in general, I am sure) liking their women to possess some form of (in the best way to put it) defect, so that they get some form of ego boost when saddling in. If you are at all knowledgeable of Japanese culture...and I am sure, Nettle, you are, you can kinda see that one making sense. The Japanese...god bless those kinky little bastards...
