“Summer Wars” intro streaming on YouTube

ToBeNowhere
The first five minutes of Mamoru Hosoda’s “Summer Wars,” the director’s follow up to the wildly successful film “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,” are available on YouTube and the Japanese Yahoo. The video is in Japanese, so I have no idea what is going on, but I’m loving the animation. Hosoda is keeping up with the clean, hyper detailed style of “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” here and reunited the whole team, including vetern character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (”Evangelion,” “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” and “FLCL”).

“Summer Wars” follows a modern day family on an adventurous summer vacation. How this vacation ties into the vibrant, avatar-filled Internet world of the trailer and the intro I have no idea. Hosoda has been called the next Hayao Miyazaki and while I’m not sure about the title, Hosoda does seem to have the whimsical lighthearted feeling of a Miyazaki film down pat.
